Here's the real answer, although Turde was SO helpful! The 88 diving board use shocks specific to that year. They mount with a bolt through the bottom just like plastic bumpers. Totally different design than the 84-87 cars. The 88 diving boards also don't stick out as much as the earlier diving board cars.
Your brother should tuck his bumpers. It will look better. That's what I did on the eS I sold last year.
