    What about oil pan bolts? Mine have rtv all over them and some are missing the wave washers.

      Just clean the threads of the bolts with a wire brush or similar. Washers aren't hard to find.

          Lol I was just asking because I went to bma to pick up my parts and this guy heard me asking for a oil drain crush washer and he says" why are you buying just the washer?"
          I told him because I don't need a new oil plug bolt plus I bought a magnetic one awhile back ago. He then starts trying to put me on the spot saying that the bolt is going to stretch and it's cheap to buy a new one when another guy jumps in saying the same thing. By this time I was laughing inside because they were getting all excited for a oil pan drain bolt. I hate people that think they know everything.

            I am currently employed, if that changes in time I will go. Id rather have a job but the picnic is certainly something that should be done at least once

              Stretch? Lol I can't imagine how hard someone has to torque it to stretch as they mentioned.. you're not suppose to tighten it that much anyways.

              I don't like that kind of people either. Just have to be confident with them instead of hiding your face.

                  The oil pan threads will strip before that bolt stretches. I hate when people spew nonsense

                    I am employed too and have requested the time off... however I'm second guessing going because I may not have the funds soon enough. I still want to go just because my dad lives up there, so to visit. Argh. I'm not asking anything, just deciding what to do, but the more time I waste, the less options will be available. In July I am spending a weekend in SF so maybe I'll extend that trip to see my dad... but miss the picnic/party. True, "at least once," so next year, possibly if not this.

                      There are a lot of those types that walk into BMA... I do my best to not talk to them.

                        90% of the time the bolts you need to worry about stretching are the same bolts ARP makes replacements for. ARP is not making oil pan bolts for a reason.

                        Not to mention:

                        Bolt stretching according Hook's Law can be expressed as

                        dl = F L / E A

                        where

                        dl = change in length of bolt (inches, mm)

                        F = applied tensile load (lb, kN)

                        L = effective length of bolt where tensile strength is applied (inches, mm)

                        E = Young's Modulus of Elasticity (psi, N/mm2)

                        A = tensile stress area of bolt (square inches, mm2)

                        Tensile stress area can be expressed as

                        A = 0.7854 (d - 0.9743 / n)^2

                        where

                        d = nominal diameter of bolt (inches, mm)

                        n = number of threads per inch (pitch)

                        So if you figure a bolt being m6x20 at 1 pitch you can figure this out

                        F = Typical Torque for an oilpan bolt = 10.5 N-m (10500 N-mm)
                        L = 20mm
                        E = Based on SAE 5 which I know is not correct but its close and its what I could easily find = 30psi (206842.7 N/mm^2)
                        d = 5mm
                        n = 25.4 threads per inch

                        dl = 10500(20) / 206842.7(.7854(5-.9743/25.4)^2)

                        dl = 210000 / 206842.7(.7854(5-.0384)^2)

                        dl = 210000 / 206842.7(.7854(4.961)^2)

                        dl = 210000 / 206842.7(.7854(24.618))

                        dl = 210000 / 206842.7(19.335)

                        dl = 210000 / 3999280.804

                        Change in Length (Stretch) = .053mm

                        So literally your talking .053mm of stretch, I am pretty sure thats why they make gaskets

                          An investigation was underway Tuesday in Bay Park, where a motorist was wounded in a car-to-car shooting.
