Sacrificed an oil pan this morning. Havent driven the e30 to work in 3 months. Some fool crashed his pickup on topanga canyon and left debris on the road, I ran it over and voila. This is why we can't have nice things.
Im also the dumbass driving around without the skid plate...Simon

Yea, I am really dumb for not having it installed. Even did all that hardcore reinforcement on the core support to make it stronger. Its one of those things... you really don't need it until one random day you do. And it'll save you MAJOR hassle and irritation. Do it.Comment

Sounds like a kick as time.@IRON-E30 aka Edwin:DComment

I had no issue even when it was bolted to the "flimsy" bottom of core support. It would definitely have saved the pan in this instance. To your point though, I reinforced the bottom of the core support to give the skid plate more strength, but didn't take the 45 mins to reinstall it.

Same here, I was driving in LB and I almost hit a pot hole that was 3ft wide and 5-6 inched deep :oComment

Strange...I have never busted an oil pan in my life. I thought it might be a swap thing but I see guys with stock engines breaking pans too. Are u guys driving with aggressive drops or what?"I'd probably take the E30 M3 in this case just because I love that little car, and how tanky that inline 6 is." - thecj

Ive personally never broken one, but Im fairly low, but whats worse is that the E34 M50 pan just hangs out there and is the first thing to absorb an impact, the lip and valence wont do anything to stop itSimon

I've never broken one, but I watched my dad drive my vert's oil pain right into the ground coming up the driveway at 40 mph on stock height....Comment

5 years driving low. Always careful. I was so proud.
Then it happened. I cried. I became a statistic.Comment

Its one of those things, you don't need it until you need it. And likely it won't be when you'd "expect" it (like running over accident debris in the dark while avoiding hitting the wreck and oncoming traffic around a blind turn)
Looked at it yesterday, its just a crack that appears to be fixable.Comment
