do i really need to remove the hub to get the backing plate off in tact and without cutting it off? i wanna be able to sandblast and paint the strut tubes but the shield is in the way.

i want to reuse my parts so is there a way to remove all of this saftly or will it be a pain?

If you don't care about the shield you can just cut it off

find the area with the least amount of metal to have to go through and take some tin snips to it, if you dont have access to air tools or a sawzaw
