    the idle is normally at about 800~ but when the AC compressor is on it goes to about 650~ my friends dad has a late model vert and it does the same thing , but my friends 87is revs the idle up when he turns the compressor on I just thought it was an early vs late model thing

                                That can happen for sure but I personally haven't seen it happen to any cars with broken timing belts that I've dealt with. Most of the time it bends 6 valves or so. If it broke the head I'd toss it straight in the scrap pile and get another.
