Yes, the lip can become unclipped without hitting anything. I hit a pot hole and the same thing happened to me.

As long as you're not using ESM quality, plastic clips you should not have issues. I bang my IS l all the time, when it's a hard enough hit a clip will break here and there but, for the most part, they hold up really good. Also make sure you lock the clips in, you have to hear the click to be sure that it will do it's job to the fullest.@IRON-E30 aka Edwin:DComment

The OEM ones are softer and bend nicely with stress which don't break.
Reps are hard plastic similar to sporks and snap when they touch stuff.Comment
