It's tough to say honestly sand bagging an e30 M3 to perserve the motor for the owner coupled with being unfamiliar with either the chassis or circuit can contribute to precious seconds. Now since they ran the cars at the same time we can rule out the circuit familiarity but as far as chassis go there is room for debate as well as drive skill to question. Would the e30 m3 be 3 -4 seconds faster if driven balls to the wall? Probably not but at least for a couple of seconds difference and narrow the gap. Also maybe they feel comfortable with the electric nannies there to guide them through the course and are unfamiliar as to how to handle a non ABS TC car, that lack of false confidence could cost them time as well.

m3s have abs (if it still works) i think the nice thing about the e30 is it really doesn't need traction control or stability control, I personally feel better about driving my e30 balls out then some newer cars I've driven because i guess i feel like my car communicates with me and i can feel when the car is approaching its (more often my) limits, so i can feel when i should tone down the stupid

Even the 87 models? I thought those were still non airbag non abs?

I won't argue you on the merits of driver feel and connection it's why we all own an e30unless you're some hipster douchebag tool

But I would say that some people can not adjust to that much connection coming from disconnected cars. I know a few e46 and even more e90 guys that tried to get in to an e30 and just didn't like it. They said it was too much for them to discern  But that being said my overall point was in relation to these two hosts may be they are not used to a non TC car and are unsure of what feels "right" as far as grip excetra when hooning about.

I always feel that it's the driver that limits a car not the other way around 9/10 times.

the only e30s that didn't come with ABS were super early model 83-84 cars from what i know

if one were to mill past the dimples on the head could one just get a thicker HG to correct the issue?

                Question for that vid "review"

What tires and tire sizes did they use? The same question I have for every Top Gear BBC episode.

^^^ That is true. Now people that that need (T/C) and all the other steering asist and that sorta shit in my book are not real drivers. You need natural input/feedback from the car to know how it feels when your driving it. You drive the car, not the car driving you. Maybe its just im old school.

The dimples are there as a guide for valve clearence because we're an interference motor. I think just going with a thicker headgasket at that point calls in to question if the valves will hit even when everything is properly timed and spec'd as well as compression I'd imagine. I'm sure you could but it is a significantly greater risk which at that point wouldn't you be better off getting a head that isn't as sketchy? If you need another head and don't mind doing a bit of work you can have my TB broken one. The casting itself is still good All I ask is for the camshaft, leftover rocker arms and guts once you remove them.

No you're not old school you're properly schooled

Even professionals that use TC/DA's for race rules or legitimate reasons still know how to hop in to a unaided vehicle and drive it appropriate and often times appreciate the lack of aids to spoil the fun.

TGIF! Started out to be a great day. Saved $90 at the driveshaft rebuilder by using our shop name. Sorry Nigel they don't build HD stub axels.

                          Cheers,

However the flip side...what about Superbike and traction control? Can you imagine taming that fire breathing beast between your legs?
