b34 and b35 mounts are not the same though, correct? Aren't The positions mainly for those who do/don't want to sledge the firewall to put the motor further back?

there are some blocks that accept both, and there are conversion plates that adapt one style to the other. the position terminology is the same between both kinds of mounts. you don't need to sledge the firewall if you switch to b35 water hoses, which have a tee off the rad return to go to the heater core.

Ahhhh, now I know the true reason for the positions. Sweet. I need an m30 e30 in my life so bad.

s5x swap is just too costly, and idk If I could ever justify the cost of doing one properly. For just a little more I could do an m30 swap with a mild turbo settup.

Buy a wrecked M3 and put some effort into parting it out and I'm sure you could do it for super cheap

                                (that said, I haven't and probably won't)
