IIRC, front axels go for a pretty penny (somewhere around $200-$400), so if someone wants a performance oriented e30; get something that's not an iX. They're also tougher on maintanence because of the AWD components in the front drive system

(yes subie 5-speeds will die from clutch dumps just like an iX t-case, but you can find another subaru transmission.)
e30s are great cars, but they are not THE car for EVERY use.past:
1989 325is (learner shitbox)
1986 325e (turbo dorito)
1991 318ic (5-lug ITB)
1985 323i baur
current:
1995 M3 (suspension, 17x9/255-40, borla)

Totally agree, I want an older modded subie for the snow some day.

Granted I did have a lot of people hook me up (Free flywheel resurfacing, getting a 2k mile clutch kit for $50, a complete short shift and bushing/seal refresh kit for $100)
Normally expect to dump $500-800 total after everything. If you want a completely refreshed a new transmission-line; expect to be hitting close to $700-800
