Depends on your thoughts of what is "slow" and what is "fast"... It is fast for being an e30. Changes the whole feel of the car. It's the engine that should've come stock with the car IMO.

        I think m30's should've been in there.

Ehh, fucks up the weight distribution. The whole thing of an e30 is amazing weight distribution and great handling.

There is an arguments they are pretty much the same weight. The problem is the location of the motor. The s50 hadn't even been made back then. The m30 was the right motor for sures.

I dont think I've ever ridden in it past 3rd gear. I thought it was fadt. Then again I've only had 20's with 2.93 diffs

lol, e30s only have a half decent weight distro. It's like 54/46 stock? Only M3s are 50/50, or E36 and up they are able to make 50/50. We corner weighed my 330 at like 50.1/49.9 bone stock.

I've heard of spec e30 guys actually putting a huge 70lb battery in their car in an attempt to try and fix the weight distribution.

Edit: also, M30s aren't much heavier than M50s. Not quite as big deal as you think it is, unless you know what you're doing on a track...

It's not the weight, it's the placement of the weight. IE too far forward or too far back. (Not sure which it is)

it's a longer engine than the M50. It's both further forward and further back. anyway, the weight distribution change is not huge and basing your decisions on it is 100% bench racing.

But, that is also why there is motor mounts with different positions to put the weight farther back in the car. And pretty sure most of us in this thread could not tell the difference of the extra weight, and placeent of motor.

those are mostly because b34s have a coolant passage in the back that doesn't clear in the rearmost mount position. you also can't use P3 with e32 downpipes, they hit the body, so you need either some sledge work or aftermarket exhaust.

that is not really the reason there are different position mounts but yes there are different position mounts
