I've always thought an 8-series would do well with an S52 turbo... German Supra.

I'd go S62 personally, I couldn't get enough of that torque when I had my M5.

It might be heretical to say, but I'd happily rock an LSx swapped E31.

S62 is likely to be an easier swap though, since it's been done before and the M60/62 bolted in. Electronics might be an issue, but that's solvable.

S62 into an E31 probably wouldn't be hugely different from S62 into E30 I suspect. How many more electronics are in the E31 than the E30?

If the body is really in that good of condition it would be perfect for a V8 swap. Getting it legal would be a whole big thing though. Ugh, nevermind!

Wouldn't be too difficult, as the S62 DME is extremely similar to S54 DME wiring, and I know how to get one of those legal in an OBD1 car. Emissions stuff is easy, just install all of it.

Would make a LOT more sense to start with a 97-ish 840ci though. Already would have motor mounts, oil pan if needed, largely similar wiring, already is OBD2, less 5 ECU bullshit to deal with, etc.

Biggest question mark in my mind is doing a manual conversion on an E31. Where would you get a pedal or linkage or master cyls or bellhousing?

Won't be cheap in cost or time though, buying the E31 will likely be the cheapest part.

That E31 I linked to is a 6spd, were there no V8 models with manuals?

Edit: Just realized you were specifically speaking about the one that Carson linked to.

I don't really like E31's and the last thing I'd wanna do if I got one is make it fast and/or dump 7-10k into one but I've heard that's basically what you have to do either way with them

There was a consignment dealer near my last job that had a Dinan 840i when I was looking for another car last January. I would have bought it, but it had been raining for a couple days when I went to look at it, and they'd left one of the windows about 2" down. Big puddle in the driver's seat. Who knows what electrics got fucked. Sad thing, as that was another of my high-school dream cars.

There was an older dude who had a twin turbo Dinan 840 when I was in High School. He used to smash that thing everywhere we saw him.

Personally, Im going to avoid E31 at all costs
