Dudes I tried to get my '72 MG Midget started today. Here was my process:

          Replace battery
          Drain and replace fuel
          Pull Spark plugs
          Oil Cylinders
          Oil Valve Train
(Oil was recently changed before I parked it)
Turn engine over with spark plugs out by moving car slowly in 4th gear - it turned freely.
Turn engine over with starter, spark plugs out.

Try to start engine with spark plugs in. Nothing. It wouldn't budge. I tried pushing it down the street and popping the clutch in 4th gear. I could get one or two revolutions, that was it. And it sounded bad. What would cause an engine to not turn over when it's capable of creating compression. I'm thinking clogged exhaust pipe (mouse nest), seized valves, clogged crank breather, something like that. Any ideas?

I think you are on to something there with the limited breathability, most probably as you mentioned something living in the intake/exhaust (hopefully its dried out by now).

Elaborate on what "bad" sounds like? If it turned over, I doubt valves are seized without some kind of godaweful sprocket ripping sound, which would be tough to do on a popstart.

I would check airflow in and out of the thing if its been sitting a while, especially through fall as critters are sacking up for the winter. Also, it might sound simple, but check torque on the spark plugs... I've done it before and was amazed.

The sound it made was a metal pinging sound. Like spark plugs pinging cylinders. I agree about spark plug torque, but if it isn't wanting to turn over with the plugs in wouldn't tightening them further or less be insignificant?

                Shop for a chain job?

                Hey guys,

So I've got to get a timing chain/pump job done for my M42, and I want a shop to do it quick and clean, but my go to guy has gone out of business. I'm considering Bimmer Haus, but haven't gotten a quote yet, or Import Warehouse here in Denver that quoted me $1100. Recommendations would be much appreciated, and thanks in advance!

SCR Performance in Loveland or Autosport Werks in Broomfield.

I would not go to BimmerHaus unless you could not go to one of the two above. I'll keep from badmouthing them on the intarwebz, but I would not go there.

Dang, that sounds rough dude. Sounds to me like something happening with the valve system. You could have even just one or two frozen valves that rusted in place while it was sitting, maybe due to water collected in the heads that didn't drain fully?

Unlocking them without surgery is beyond any of my ideas at the moment...anyone else?

So my windshield washer stopped squirting about 6 months ago, and I couldnt figure out where it was going. Took the hood thingy off, and it was squirting like crazy out of this thing

Anyone have a clue what it is?

I just cut it out, and put some vaccuum t's in, works like a charm now!

I think it is some sort of one-way valve or something
