Remove the white locking pin when the airbag wheel is off. It pulls right off.
Disconnect the airbag wire harness from the module below the wheel so the SRS light is off.

As said before, the wheel will sit a little bit closer to the washer stalks. It took me a few weeks to get used to it but now I actually prefer that it's closer.

Can someone here help me with a DMV question. I will give them a call tomorrow if I need to, but I am looking to give the owner an answer soon. It is for a motorcycle, but the DMV rules are the same for cars/motorcycles in Colorado except for emissions testing.

The current owner collects/fixed/builds motorcycles. He has a Nebraska title that is signed by the PO, and is dated 2/16/12. No one signed it yet, so presumably I sign it in my name and it essentially skips his 'ownership'. I am fine with that, the bike seems okay and the guy seems reputable. VIN matches and he has a legal Nebraska bill of sale too.

My question: Is there a time limit to sign over a title to a new owner? I want to make sure that I can still transfer titles in my name even though it was signed by the PO in February.

      Thanks!

What he wants to do is called floating the title, which is illegal (unless he has a dealer's license). It costs like $15 for him to re-title it in his name, and then re-title to you, usually. Though out of state might cost more, if I remember correctly.

The issue with the title being dated from february, is that you're going to pay an extra $100 late fee, since this guy dropped the ball on transferring the title into his name.

Also, its possible that the owner in Nebraska could have filed for a new title, making yours invalid during that period. If the Bill of Sale is made out to the guy who bought the bike from the Nebraskan, but you try to title the bike directly into your name, you probably won't be able to enforce it should you need to, even if you get a bill of sale from the guy selling it now, to yourself.

I would tell the guy no-deal.... unless he re-titles in his name first. If it was a CO title that wasn't dated yet, I might consider letting him get away with it.

          Okay, good information here.

Both the bill of sale and the title have not been signed over to anyone. The PO was okay with leaving it blank on both of them. So essentially I would have a bill of sale and a title signed by the PO, that I would sign. The only issue would be that it is dated February. So assuming the PO hasn't applied for a new title I would just be dealing with a $100 late fee?

Also. I am not sure if this site is legit or not, but it says that there is no time limit to transferring a title after purchasing.

            http://www.dmv.org/co-colorado/title-transfers.php

I do see where there is a $100 fee for being late on registration, but sense this is a new title/ownership I shouldn't be responsible for not having it registered. But I'm not sure.

And now I see this. It sure does sound like I will be charged $100.

I'd also get the guy selling the thing to print+sign the bill of sale as a witness.

I got a hold of the DMV. Yes, I would be charged $100 when getting plates for it. However, the current "owner" can get a new title in his name without plates and won't be fined. Then he can transfer the CO title to me and we are all good.

I basically told him he titles it and I pay the price we agreed, or I will pay $150 less and do it myself.

The DMV said it wasn't a big deal that we are essentially skipping him in ownership which I thought was strange but they are okay with it.

Yay for learning the CO DMV rules?

many cars have skipped my ownership, I have never had a problem.
