I just moved down to Denver at the start of the summer and. I love it
I live smack downtown and compared to the east coast cities I grew up in its a really quiet city.

One of my favorite things is the fact that there is Tons of live music every night(mostly jam band or edm but i jam so no probles for me) its just a matter of time till your favorite band stops through
On top of that there are 3 stadiums you can walk to downtown, just tailgating on game day is fun.
Then there are tons of awesome drives within and hour, it takes me 30 min to get out of the city then all the mountain roads you want(found a sick dirt canyon road an hour away from downtown)

The only negatives for me is the traffic, which compaired to the east coast or LA is non existent but it just makes no sense a is caused by all the construction that is supposed to help the problem

Personally for me I moved down from a ski town in the middle of heaven and it hurt to move down to the "concert jungle" but there are 10x more hiking biking trails around Denver then I could ever ride and in a hours time you could be so deep in the woods you can't even hear Denver

      Thanks for the input guys!

There is much more positive than when I asked about moving to SoCal :nice:
I actually found out another friend from back home just moved there and one of my best friends and his wife may be heading there soon. I plan to drive out and spend a few weekends out there checking it all out to make sure I find a decent spot and hopefully have a job lined up.

Some photo's when I drove through on my cross country trip.

I wish this stretch of 70 was closer to the Denver area. It's my favorite stretch of highway I've been on.

      Loved this place

The skatepark in Arvada was one of the best I've ever ridden. I may try to look around that area for housing. Seemed quiet, decent location, skatepark close and my friends garage is there.

Regarding traffic....it cannot compare to my current commute. Takes me 40 minutes in the morning (leaving at 530 to avoid traffic) even though I don't work till 8. And last night because of a small accident, took 2.5 hours. My commute is 31 miles each way. I calculated that based off my normal driving time, I will spend 21 days in my car this year just getting to and from my job that I need to pay for an apartment I'm rarely at. Thats 3 weeks of my life this year, sitting in traffic.

There are only 2 seasons in CO...Winter and Construction :)

I've got a pretty terrible commute (for CO standards) currently. Drive from downtown Denver up to Boulder on US-36, which is one giant construction zone for the last year+ and another year+ to go. 26 miles each way, I also leave before 6 to avoid traffic.

Arvada will be pretty decent price-wise for living expense in comparison to the downtown area or boulder. Some decent mtn biking just out in Golden near Arvada too.

Haha. I totally understand you can make any place sound like a dreamland if you only focus on the positives. I have just found far more positives than negatives there as far as what I'm looking for. It's probably terrible to some people but then again, some people love LA and I simply don't.

One of the few positives from an ended negative marriage. I am sure there are downsides but the ups far outweigh them. IMHO!

Load the car and do it!

When I was a kid, we drove over Loveland Pass every weekend. I thought living at 10,000 feet was normal. Skied at Loveland or over the top to A-Basin, camped at Shadow Mtn Res or in the Park in the summer. Great memories. That was before the I-70 tunnel, so you had to go over the pass. We'd laugh at cars with Texas plates straddling the yellow lines in the middle - switchbacks with no guard rails. No Copper Mtn, no Keystone yet. Aspen was a hippy town with VW busses. Parker and Castle Rock were little towns out in the sticks, not suburbs.

I think west / Arvada / foothills would be nice. We used to race small sailboats on all those little lakes. Littleton / south end might be nice too.

There's a light rail system into downtown now that's smart for commuting.

That area between the old train station and new baseball stadium downtown was really derelict - now restored and filled with pubs and restaurants and people out at night. Cool foot / bike bridge across the river heading west from downtown. Speer Blvd is a cool and classic street, on both sides of the river.

Have you thought about the Colorado Springs area? I got family and friends that live there and love it. They says its like Denver but just smaller. Plus your at the base of pikes peak.

Yeah, don't live in Aurora or any of the eastern plains suburbs. You miss out on quite a bit. There are very few places I'd consider living that are on the east side of I-25, and very few places I'd consider living north of Highway 36/highway 270. Colorado Springs is cool, mostly conservative which kicks ass (no emissions testing, low taxes, etc), but has a few less amenities than Denver. I wouldn't mind living there, in "The Springs," at all.

It's definitely one of the most beautiful highway sections ever built. In fact it was the last section of the original Interstate Highway System (initiated in 1956) to be completed in October of 1992. 12 miles, 40 bridges, numerous tunnels and is one of the most expensive rural highways per mile built in the United States.

Initially they were going to blast out part of the canyon to make it wider until some engineering group came up with the elevated solution, which actually increases the aesthetic appeal of the canyon imho while most highways detract from the beauty.

Colorado Springs is on my radar. I may actually go up in like 2 weeks to hang out with some friends and cant wait to drive East on that stretch of 70. I plan on spending a good week out there early next year to really feel it out and look around even more. I was there for 2 days last time.

No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.
