Thanks man. We unfortunately only had a couple days to search so we came up empty. The thing is I'm being picky. I want a small duplex, not in the city with ample parking (garage preferred) and a fenced yard. There are a number of places on Zillow currently that meet it, however no one seems to want to rent to me living out of state currently. Also we have 3 dogs. Combined they weigh maybe 20lbs but still, most places have a 2 limit. I called about a place today that was ideal and within our budget...but again, since I'm not there currently, no dice.

We're leaving Long Beach the 25th of this month to head out there, get a hotel and search high and low for a place to live. The 12th of August I fly back here to close our current lease and pick up the E30 and whatever is left of our stuff.

as noted we just moved here but from looking at the local Govnt assessment web site im seeing a consistent 80-100k increase in property values in our neighborhood in the last year (and of course corresponding tax increases),yikes

We got approved for the apartment! Just waiting for the guy to send the lease over. He's been real slow through the whole process but it's an individual owner rather than a rental agency which I prefer so I'll deal with it. It's a small one bedroom with a garage in the west highlands but the kicker is a huge, fenced back yard.

Absolutely!

Lease signed, deposit in. Really relieved to have a place lined up and not have to live out of a hotel.

That's a 3 car garage that I'm told the entire unit shares although no one parks in it. It's just for storage. The landlord said they don't care if I park in it as long as the other tenants are cool with it. I even tried to give them an extra $50/mo for a dedicated spot but he said to just sort it with the others. Could be good or bad.

Good jesus it's impossible to find a place to live. Why can't some of you people move away? lol. But seriously it's ridiculous. Seems unless you're the first person to call and have money in hand it will already be gone. Found a few really cool small duplexs but they were already taken. I REALLLLLLY dislike living in those bland, huge apartment complex's. So we'll be out for good end of this month and either staying with a friend for a bit or getting a long term hotel stay for a week or two till I can find something.

well, glad you found your space. i ran an ad on craigslist and had land lords come to me. i worked out a deal with some older lady where i rent out the furnished downstairs in her tri level for 400.00/mo. the caveat is that i help her do projects around the house such as paint or some carpentry work. it works out great for me, since i don't seem to be called to fly much and i am bored off my ass.

Man this guy is super slow getting this done. I asked for a signed copy of the lease. Not just one with our names printed on it for my records. He said sure no problem but it's been like 3 days. Am I out of line to think that when someone sends you a fair bit of money for a deposit for an apartment you're renting, the lease you could do is provide a signed copy of the lease? I think I'm just on edge.
