My commute is 31 miles each way and takes about an hour each way. It used to take 40 minutes, then 45, then 50, then people (like me) kept moving here, and now an hour!

Traffic and population growth aside it's an amazing place to live. Once people figure out the weather is nearly perfect they end up moving here. You get real seasons, tons of sun, low humidity, and very little ice in the winter and little to no mosquitoes. I mountain bike and hike year round...comfortably. Ski/snowboard in the winter is expensive but it's a great time. Off-roading, camping, fishing, climbing, backpacking, bears, trees, oh and there's still a city right there. What's not to like? There are not many places where you can do that with such a large amount of variety right next to a decent sized city.

I grew up in small midwest towns. The western side of town is a little more open and, for now, a little bit quieter. You have very close access to tons of trails so you can actually use them during work weeks. I am able to mountain bike from my driveway. I love it.

It used to be cool, but last 15 yrs its just a PITA. My family all lives in Denver, and they have tried so many times to get me to move out there. Too much traffic, high real estate, and when you do head up in the MT's for a nice drive, you are in slow moving traffic all the way up any canyon in the summer. Isolation bugged me also. An 8 hour drive, and where are you? I like the south much better.

I live about 10 miles from that section of I-70 (Glenwood Canyon) . It is great up here in the mountains. Not much if any traffic , usually , and a very short drive to the nearest Mountain to go Snowboard. Colorado Springs and Denver have gotten too big for me.

If you live in LoDo you cant cook your meat because you cook the good energy out of it. ;D

Before I say anything I should state that I do not live in Denver and never have "lived" there. Spent significant amount of time there though. Lived in Wy for the majority of my life, have lots of friends that move to denver, made countless skate trips there over the years and the gfs parents live in Castle Rock. I have lived in SoCal as well and hated it for similar reasons.

              IMO Co Springs > Denver.

Denver just seems like an East California now... Traffic is fucked. I cant stand traffic. Just cant do it. The picture of the park by the river on the first page is pretty cool. That four block is a lot of fun to skate and has a little ledge there as well. Theres piles of skate/bmx spots though. Co gets a new skatepark like once a fucking month and you can find spots all over.

Lots of good eating. But I guess thats any big city.. definitely try craveburger if you move. idk what else to say about it.. Winters are mild. idk about the ski/snowboarding stuff but im sure its fun if you have the money for it. The mountains are the shit though. And Wy is a short drive and has similar nature stuff (and less taxes and no smog).

Overall I would pick Denver over LA in a fucking heart beat. I honestly dont think theres anything that could make me even consider moving back to Ca, except for MAYBE moving to SD. Denver is a pretty cool place overall. Just dont think Id ever want to live there permanently. I would consider it a significant upgrade from LA.

I wish this stretch of 70 was closer to the Denver area. It's my favorite stretch of highway I've been on.

The skatepark in Arvada was one of the best I've ever ridden. I may try to look around that area for housing. Seemed quiet, decent location, skatepark close and my friends garage is there.
Saw this and it reminded me of something. The drive from Grand Junction to Durango is the best drive i have ever taken. Red mountain pass is absolutely beautiful. Stop In Ouray and hang out for awhile, swim in the natural pools, cruise the pass, stop and check out all the views and old mining carts, trakcs and stuff.

And the Arvada park is great. Its huge. Has quite a few good rails and a nice mixture of tranny. The broomfield park is one of my favorites but idk how good it would be for bmx. Its tiny compared to Arvada but has a nice little handrail and some fun ledges. Co Springs also has one of the funnest parks ive ever been to. Has this huge vert ramp thats cool to just look at. A fun street ish section that flows nicely and lots of bowls and tranny. Co is very supportive of skateboarding (not sure about bmx) so they get new shit all the time. Always something to skate/ride.

BMX gets lumped in with a good bit of the mtb scene out there. There are city funded dirt jumps in a few spots around the city and most of the skate parks are bike friendly. A hell of a change from here. Yea the weather is nice but as odd as it sounds, I'm bored of it. I like seasons, I like weather. It's been 70-85 and sunny all but 4 days in the 6 months that I've been here. Denver still feels like a big city to me but it's not the sprawling metropolis that LA. I like city living..well probably more suburban living.

When I drove out here it blew me away that when I hit the edge of the metropolitan area, my GPS said I still had 62 miles till I hit Long Beach. The size is hard to comprehend.

Small update. Looking around September-ish to make the move out there. Any good resources for finding an apartment other than craigslist? It's just full of complex's and spam. Idealy looking on the Northwest side of the city, looking for a job currently but will move if I have nothing by then, I have plenty in savings to last a bit.

Known as the Million Dollar Highway. I have heard about it obviously, but haven't yet driven it. Maybe this year after D4C.

Unfortunately for you rent and realestate is still really hot. Prices continue to climb and Denver is one of the hottest markets right now. If you really like Colorado Springs, it is more affordable than Denver and still gives you the proximity to Castle Rock.

If you are looking in Arvada/Wheatridge area, I can't add much. I work in Louisville, but everything near Boulder and outward to Louisville, Lafayette, Broomfield etc is all getting more crowded as people expand outward from Boulder. I live to the east in Thornton and it has been good. One of the main reasons is that I don't have to deal with traffic into Denver so my location works.

I haven't looked for apartments, but I would suggest a google map search which will give you a much broader range of possible apartment complexes. Narrow down your location and then price hunt from there. In this market is sounds like what you pay is what you get, so I wouldn't go cheap/sketchy.
Federal Heights area doesn't have the best reputation, but I think it is turning around a bit.

Good luck, and how about you share some info about your cars?

Find local businesses, view maps and get driving directions in Google Maps.

Thanks for the info! I know real estate is pretty steep out there but considering I'm paying just over $1200 for a small 1 bed room in a questionable area here. I've got 5 friends currently living in the Denver Metro area as well as the GF has a few so we're trying to get a headstart on the search. Ideally looking in the NW side of the city and possibly SW but am open to other areas so long as they're decent and not over crowded, I'm tired of living shoulder to shoulder with people. I'm trying to find work before I go and she'll hopefully be able to transfer her job so we're looking a few months out. I'll drive the E30 out first, stay with a friend and hopefully have interviews lined up and relentlessly search for a place to live, fly home and gather the rest of our crap and pack the remaining two cars and drive again.

Oh the cars? I have my M50 swapped 91 that is the weekend fun/project car, swap thread in my sig (BTW am I to run into issues getting a swapped car registered here?). My daily is a 99 Honda CRV with coilovers and RSX wheels and some stereo stuff and the GF is driving my tired old E34 touring.

OBDI cars get by pretty easy with swaps as long as the engine is the same year or newer as the chassis and it has the necessary emissions equipment. Gotta pass the sniffer test, gas cap seal test, etc.

They will do a visual for EGR and a cat, too. Unless you live in El Paso County. In that case you don't have to worry about any of it.
