Yep, that's what I did last time. So worth it.

Wait - I am getting ready to do this tomorrow. Are folks saying I should take my control arms and lollipops (which already have had the bushings pressed into) and have the them pressed onto the arms in advance?

I rather 5 speed swap someone's car versus doing this bushing change any day. May the chariot god's be with you
If doing the above of taking it to a shop, you need to install it in the car in the next 30 minutes if using OEM bushings whether m3 or non-m3 so that it settles correctly on the control arm. This can lead to the bushing failing prematurely, more so on the non m3 bushings. This is spec from BMW. People do it anyways and have no issue but some have. It has happen to me on my e28 which is hte same principle.

I would vote against that unless shop it very close by.

No, DIY it. Hammer and sil-glyde (available at NAPA). Done.

Click my name, click view public profile, click view threads started by XXXX. Helpful forum hint... the very first link is the thread I made.

This is the post in there:

I'm sure the proper tool is much better, but did what I could with the local hardware store supplies on the cheap.

This was a while ago, like I said I just had the standard style bushings pressed at a shop as that is much much easier. I hope the bushing doesn't prematurely wear but honestly as a centered design and as they are pressed on at the proper orientation I'm hoping it should be fine. I know you're supposed to set the car down within 30 minutes, but let me tell you it can be hard to get both sides done manually within that 30 minute window... so I took it more as a guideline.

If you read a lot of these threads many people say they can slide them on with: force, hammer, laundry detergent, fairy dust. For me there was NO WAY that bushing was going on with anything other than a press/extreme force tool. Moral here is apparently some CA and CAB combinations can work out differently than others.

Yes I did forget that part when advising so thanks. I could barely walk let alone think after my second one was on, but I kept saying out loud "drop the car, drop the car, drop the car."

So i built a tool and finally got them on!!! but... when i was torquing the bolts down, one broke off at 50lbs..

all the other ones went in fine, im just wondering if the car will be ok to drive to a shop so they can replace the bolts?

One of the lollipop bolts? Dang that sucks. You could always drill out and extract, luckily it's a pretty easy location.
