I would never, ever wish this on anyone. If you did this job in under 20 minutes, I envy your control arms. Took me 6 hours & a shitload of laundry detergent to pull it off, so forget the dish soap water, since it will not aid in anyway. It's not the weekend, so I would just take it to a shop & have it pressed, I'm not even bothering next time doing it myself.
I rather 5 speed swap someone's car versus doing this bushing change any day. May the chariot god's be with you :up:Alex 88 m5 | 91 318is | 19 Subaru Ascent

Click my name, click view public profile, click view threads started by XXXX. Helpful forum hint... the very first link is the thread I made.
This is the post in there:
I'm sure the proper tool is much better, but did what I could with the local hardware store supplies on the cheap.
This was a while ago, like I said I just had the standard style bushings pressed at a shop as that is much much easier. I hope the bushing doesn't prematurely wear but honestly as a centered design and as they are pressed on at the proper orientation I'm hoping it should be fine. I know you're supposed to set the car down within 30 minutes, but let me tell you it can be hard to get both sides done manually within that 30 minute window... so I took it more as a guideline.
If you read a lot of these threads many people say they can slide them on with: force, hammer, laundry detergent, fairy dust. For me there was NO WAY that bushing was going on with anything other than a press/extreme force tool. Moral here is apparently some CA and CAB combinations can work out differently than others.Originally posted by z31maniacI just hate everyone.

If doing the above of taking it to a shop, you need to install it in the car in the next 30 minutes if using OEM bushings whether m3 or non-m3 so that it settles correctly on the control arm. This can lead to the bushing failing prematurely, more so on the non m3 bushings. This is spec from BMW. People do it anyways and have no issue but some have. It has happen to me on my e28 which is hte same principle.Originally posted by James Crivellone1) The internet is NOT serious business.Comment
