I have a dead SI board that looks like it was repaired in the past. The batteries are soldered onto the terminals. Can this be repaired. This was a replacement cluster. I am waiting for the odometer gears so hopefully I can fix both.

I've got a couple of newer style SI boards with fresh lithium batteries ready to ship for $90 each, $15 core deposit included.

For those on a budget, I have a few newer style boards with NiCd batteries that I will sell for $60 shipped.

Those with the pre-1986 clusters that need boards, please contact me and I'll get a solution for you.

                      Note to all DIY'ers:

I have a seen a rare trend that I wanted to share that relates to safety. When de-soldering the batteries from the SI board, please wear safety goggles.

I have experienced, in a few occasions, mini-explosions when apply heat to the solder joints. This will literally fling hot solder onto your face. You literally experience a "pop" sound and flinging solder.

What causes this? This is definitely caused during the process to install the batteries, the soldering process. Either by OEM or someone who installed after market batteries. It can be caused by moisture abortion into the solder, contamination issues, too much flux, and other flux issues without going into too much details.

So moral of the story. Wear your safety goggles anytime you solder! Thanks

I have an e28 that all signs seem to point to being the cluster, do you have any service to perhaps take a look and see if it's messed up? I don't mind being down a cluster for a while, doesn't do me too much good right now...

Of course, I've fixed many E28 clusters. Send me a private message and we can go over the details. List all the problems you are having.
