Feeler: One-touch window modules

Yeah, they're just like the modern one-touch ones. I just need to get ahold of one to test the voltages and amperes that run through em when opperating.

Modern "One Touch" use a normal switch, but the control module is different.

The module sees a longer pulse and toggles over to roll all the way down.

Still haven't seen a post about HOW the E36 OT switches are different.

i have some e36 switches, blue and white if you can use them, let me know and ill send them to ya. i think its a great idea

since I only have an e30 with e30 switches, this one will be developed first.

If one of you wants to send me an e36 switch and harness, we can get them made sooner.

For the sake of research, I might be able to ship you some more e36 switches if you need them. I think I have both 1-touch, and non 1-touch. PM me if you want to work something out.


Ohh, and I don't think you should supply the switches with the module unless you find a box of them for sale cheap. Everyone should just buy the switches themselves, then order the correct module to work with them.

that leaves you with the task of finding the switch and supplying the module. That'd be too much work, im sure you're putting in enough effort already to create these modules!

I'm going over to my parents house today after work. I'll see if the one's from Scott have arrived yet. (I have everything shipped there because they live in the suburbs and I live in downtown Portland... don't want anything sitting on my doorstep).

I could always use more e36 switches, I know there are several different ones and it would be great to know the differences (if there are any) between them.

Like stated above, it's really too much for me to try and locate switches for every one. They're pretty easy to find, and I don't want to be responsible for having some one heated about getting one that's not up to their aesthetic standards...

My friend has looked over the wiring schematics of the e30 window switches, and have derived the preliminary design on paper. It's going to be slightly more work than we had anticipated due to how archaic the circuit structure is. But it shouldn't be any problem. Hopefully we're going to program a test chip tonight or tomorrow.

Sending them out tomorrow - they're in a bag on my passenger seat. Didn't make it to the PO but I'm off tomorrow. I'm sending a set of four different one touch switches, and one non-one touch switch, white base, with harness (sunroof). That'll be good to use for testing, maybe if someone can send a blue base and a non-sunroof white base non-one touch to finish the collection? :)

Ken, I was going to PM you this, but maybe some others are interested in this too. The wiring to the window motors is fairly thin gauge, and we all know they'll work a lot better with more juice. What I was thinking about was wiring the relay/module straight from the battery, using an inline fuse, of course, and thicker gauge wiring to go from the relay/module to each of the window motors. That way, they get more juice, and you also don't have to mess with the 20+ year old electrical system. What do you think?

way too much work for the little (if any) gains you would see. there is 12v and 25amps going through those wires... the motor doesn't need any more than that.

Chip concept is worked out on paper, and the chip will most likely be designed/tested this week/end.

Eh, I'll jump in on this. I'd probably be down for a set to use with e36 white base non-1 touch switches. The temperature-cracking thing sounds cool, and would be even better if there's some sort of pot that can be turned to adjust how much they "crack", another for temperature adjustment, and perhaps even just a switch in there to disable it for whatever reason, like to avoid wind noise if it's a bother and the air conditioning works.

no, that has to do wit the mechanic aspect of the window track...

I dunno - my pass side front window has stopped working, and I believe it's because the load on the window wiring got to be too much (window getting slow and sticky) and eventually melted the wiring, causing a short. That's just a theory though. That's why I wanted to run new, thicker wiring...
