    H&R coilover pre-order

Hey guys, I wanted to give everyone that doesn't follow us on Instagram the opportunity to get in on the pre-order that we are having. My company is the US distributor for the H&R classic coilovers, so if you're interested in a set this is your best opportunity. We usually sell them on a first-come, first-serve basis, and they usually go quick.

The coilovers are based on OEM strut housings. We send a bunch of them to H&R in Germany, they make sure they are straight and have no issues before they cut the stock strut tube from the spindle and weld their own threaded shock body in place. So rather than having to weld your coilovers on yourself or cut and section your housings, these are just bolt-on. The damping of the strut is matched to the springs perfectly, and you get almost 3" of adjustability. H&R doesn't publish spring rates publicly, but they are similar to the H&R race in terms of stiffness. I have personally had these coilovers on my E30 since 2017, had a kit on my old E34, and have installed many sets on customers cars. They ride amazing and have great adjustability, and it's nice to just install them and not have to worry about cutting your stock housings, making sure you welded them on straight and got good penetration, painting and waiting for them to dry, etc.

Pricing for the E30 set is $2100, we charge a $500 core charge that will be refunded when you send a set of OEM 51mm housings back to us (needs to be 51mm housings). If you have any other classic BMW that has integrated spindles, we can get coilovers made for that too! The pre-order will be up for 2 weeks, after that pricing will be more due to the transport costs of one set vs. multiples. PM me here or send a DM to my shop on Instagram (@leichtbauwerkstatt) to send a deposit and hold your place!

I've been thinking about a set of coilovers for a while now. I'm currently on an old set of H&R Sport springs and the car is just to low to drive in Philly. I want the car to feel stable for twisties and at speed, but also don't want to crash through every bump and constantly scrape the skid plate or exhaust.

That being said, I really haven't looked into coilovers much. What sets these apart from Ground Control, KW, etc.? For an e30, will these have adjustable springs on the trailing arms, or true coil overs in the back? Adjustable dampers? Front caster/camber plates?

Very cool, I wish this was available back before I redid my suspension. This is a great price point too! BC Coilovers with Swift spring will easily come out to about $1600 plus another $200 to cut and weld your old suspension. Ive had H&R coilovers on my e36 and e39 and I loved everything about them.

Ground Control and KW both make a good setup as well, but I feel the H&R are just a better option. The only part that Ground Control makes themselves is the adjusters; they use shocks from Koni and springs from Eibach. Their adjusters slide over the stock housings, and you either need to cut the stock spring perch off and weld a new one on yourselves, or send your parts to them to have them modified. KW invested the time and money to have a new spindle forging made so they don't need to rely on stock parts, but their forging is kind of sloppy, and I have seen the bolt holes for the backing plates not line up. KW also insists on using plastic adjusters with grub screws on their coilovers, which can strip out over time and damage the threads each time you move them. The KW are also quite a bit more than these to cover their investments in the forging.

I had BC's on my old E39 and H&R's on my old E34, different cars I know, but the ride quality is night and day. We have removed many sets of BC's off E30's and replaced them with the H&R coilovers, and everyone has been thrilled.

No rubbing, he drove the car back to Flagstaff from Orange County and said it rode better than his old sport spring setup, and has messaged me multiple times since to rave about how good the car handles now.

            wheel/tire specs?

Damn, def will consider, given that I drive a late model and just can't get the rear to sit where I want it without doing some weird shimming shit.

Is the shock going perform similar or the same as a b8?

IIRC, the wheels were 15x7 et25 with 15mm spacers all around. 205/50/15 tires.

From driving these and a H&R race/Bilstein B8 setup back to back, I would say the dampers are a bit softer on high speed damping and firmer on low speed. So small impacts around town it rides better, but on the highway they float less.

Last week for the pre-order! I have a ton of E30 core housings to send out, so we don't need your cores back until after you get the coilovers.

Some photos of SpasticDwarf 's old e30 (now owned by iXBeater ) that we installed these coilovers on also

How much shorter is the front strut?

What spring rates or rate packages are available?

How's the warranty if just one strut leaks?

Made in-house at H&R, I've been to the factory twice and seen them being assembled.

I don't know the exact measurement of how much shorter the struts are from factory, I would guess about 1.5". I don't have any E30 sets left in stock to measure unfortunately. I can say I've never felt them bottom out and hit bumpstops, even when lowered all the way.

The kit we typically sell is the Street Performance kit, with spring rates that are comparable to H&R race springs. If you want something different, we can order the Tief kit (ultra low ride heights), the Clubsport Nurburgring kit (racing kit with very stiff rates), or even a fully custom kit with adjustable dampers and whatever rates you want ($).

If one strut was to leak, we would work with you to either get you a new set, or expedite a repair of the leaking part. Mine look like I just installed them after 7 years, fwiw.
