    Pelican Parts Nightmare

currently on hold while i write this. placed an order with pelican on the 31st of may. it left the warehouse on the 3rd. international shipping to canada through dhl express for 3 - 4 business day shipping.

pelican had to divide the order to 2 waybills for dhl and sent them wrong invoicing. dhl sent 2 notifications doubling the import duties and brokerage fees i needed to pay as a result. i had paid one when i realized pelican's screw up.

contacted pelican who told me they would straighten it out with dhl. days go by. well past the delivery date. then dhl goes on strike. dhl keeps pressuring for the second erroneous fee.

    then i lose tracking.

subsequent attempts at contacting dhl gets nowhere. contacting pelican customer service again results in little to nothing. pelican promises to keep me informed. a few more days go by.

pelican stops answering calls or responding to emails on the 9th.

    - no longer on hold after 25 minutes -

today - the 16th - finally managed to contact a pelican manager. they promised to refund the shipping. big deal. at least they will make an effort now.
they have no idea where my parts are, when or even if they will get delivered.

i'm $2100 cdn in with nothing to show. parts are close to 2 wks overdue and it has cost extra on top as i now had to have the car towed yesterday. furious at them. spent thousands there over the last 15 yrs.

Dude, they're owned by EAH for over 5 years, which is the parent of ECS, which is has been passed around by the equity capital crowd a couple of times. I sincerely doubt that customer focused service is their thing anymore.

Maybe try an independent like FCP? Are they still an indy even?

fcp is my second go to. the issue with fcp up here is you pay extra for the great guarantee but they can't honour it here.

that said - fcp did literally overnight a front control arm when they screwed up a time sensitive order and ate the costs. i do respect them. i threatened pelican with going back to fcp - we've got more than one euro i take care of lol

i can also agree that once pelican became part of the monolith they rolled to generically bad.

pelican is trying more now. got an email saying they would re-issue the order through fedex if dhl does not return any better result. i needed the parts time sensitive 8 days ago.

Does Canada not have any euro parts stores like FCP, Pelican, etc.?

Nothing super specialized when it comes to E30 stuff or OE parts.
Like DeltaParkAuto in Brampton,ON carries a lot of aftermarket goodies from various US companies (Red46, CAtuned, Revshift, Condor, H&R), and we have Massive in Montreal, but otherwise it's just generic retailers like Autopartsway with spotty availability and basically nothing OE.

So Blunt/Rockauto are my go-tos. Occasionally FCP but they are more expensive and for me they always ship slowly.

Made the mistake of buying from ECS a year back and it turned into a clusterfuck, but I did have an order through Turner that went well, so maybe just luck.

i've gotten stuff from both turner and ecs before but i've never ordered anything time sensitive from that group until now. i'm pretty sure the dhl has lost the order and isn't admitting it.

how is blunttech with getting parts up here? they support the community and i definitely would consider them for that alone.

edit: pelican refunded the shipping today which is meaningful as a piss in the ocean. the manger/rep i'm dealing with seems to have gone dark again. no answer on the phone, i emailed and hope to have a response but the experience to date has been overwhelmingly lacking.

pelican issued a replacement order today just before 1pm local time. it looks like they are trying to do the right thing. it won't help with the lost time and other expenses incurred but at least i will get parts.

i could be happier but it's still better than seething anger lol

To be fair I haven't bought e30 parts since like 2021, but Blunt has always been great.
He'll ship however you want, usually he'll try to go with a flat rate USPS (iykyk) box and make things fit.

Hard to find anywhere else that'll ship USPS/Canada Post these days, and with the current CP strike/bargaining, who knows if it will even be an option in another few months, but at least it avoids the Fedex and UPS border fuckery.

I've never placed an order through the website, just email sales@ with my list of demands, or a spreadsheet if it's a lot of stuff.

that's great to know. i normally get parts usps/canada post whenever possible. this time out there was a time crunch, otherwise i order well in advance. the tariff and brokerage charges alone are enough to avoid the commercial carriers.

pelican will ship usps/canada post and i'm pretty sure fcp still does as well. i'd have to check. it's just hopeless getting it here in any timeframe through that shipping.

pelican came through today with the bulk of a replacement order. of course they sent an aluminum gasket instead of a eccentric bolt washer so the car remains crippled.
