If you're serious I suggest giving RMP Motors a call. They are producing some crazy n52 race cars.

Why bother with the n52 then? Isnt valvetronic kinda the point?
A race car is the 5% of the time when it makes sense. The motor will mostly be at WOT, low end drivability a fuel economy dont matter.Comment

I have no intentions on swapping an n52 into my e30. I'm just providing info on what "could" be done.Comment

Most of the crazy N52s ive seen people building out there have it locked out and run off a cable TB.

yeah, but those are race motors. I thought the context here was a swap for a street car.Comment

As did I. locking out valvetronic is far from ideal for a street car, esp given the intake manifold and everything is designed around not being under true 'vaccuum'.

maybe physically but software support will be limited. there's not going to be a "valvetronic" table in most standalones or dedicated outputs for them. Ones that have that will cost more than a nice E30.
and everyone always forgets about the cost for tuning. if you pay $10,000 for a computer you're not going to get the thing tuned for $0..Comment

Exactly, I just meant you would most likely use a pwm output to control it. You would be on your own though to come up with a control strategy.
This is why even if a standalone COULD control things, you are way ahead just using the factory ECU if possible.-Nick

Bump.
So, it turns out MSV70 is pretty easy to hack. It's set up a lot like the motorsports DMEs. I don't have an EWS delete yet, but you'd only need a couple modules to make it happy. Who wants to try it? :pComment

You BDMing into it?

yeah, but you can do it over OBD as well, it's just a lot slower because of BMW's anti tuning methods (slowing down the write speed so it takes like half an hour to flash).
BDM takes about 1 minute for a complete flash, and with careful procedures you can do it with the DME still in the car without freaking out the CAS.
this one I think I can develop my own performance tune for. Also, I did a compare between my 330i and my wife's 325xi, all the addresses are exactly the same, so if I get her a 3 stage manifold I can literally copy and paste my stock tune over hers.Comment

What software you using to write over OBD?
edit: Ive gone through the A2L pretty thoroughly and the 3 stage conversion seems relatively simple.
The 2 things that make it easy to compare are the Z4 3.0i and 3.0si 0da files.
