im running the 5spd zf and an mcoupe 3.15 or 3.23 diff.
before i get accused of thread jacking......
here is the pic of the ews2 mounted in my car. I made some brackets to hold the ecu, ews2, borg, antenna and key. i kept the ignition lock from the e36 as it was a good housing for the antenna ring and key. the engine harness was a right hand drive car, so the harness didnt have much room to extend the ecu very far into the glove box. cheers, jason

Lots of good info here. The 98 e36 would still use the EWSII system. System components include: key with transponder, ring antenna, transmitter/receiver module, ewsII control module, dme control module
The big thing is the individual serial number that is stored in the DME. The key is coded to the ews, and the ews is synched to the dme. If the ISN in the ews matches the ISN in the DME, then fuel and spark can occur.
Also remember as long as the key is coded to the ews the engine will crank, but will only run with verification of the ISN.
only 10 keys can coded to an ews, so depending on how many keys had already been coded to that particular ews, its possible that no more keys can be coded to them at some point. The EWS is vin specific, but the DME is not and can be programmed using the GT1.Old and improved:

Just like the guys have said here, except I mounted my antenna ring/key into the driverside under dash cover.
I can remove the key when needed, so I got the "immobilizer" discount from the insurance company.Comment

Could a gt1 or autologic computer re flash it? Also I know some wiring is needed. More than ewsII. I knew this isn't going to be a walk in the park.
Excellent literature ;)Last edited by moatilliatta; 10-13-2010, 01:46 PM.Comment
