    [quote=e30polak;1909355]OBD1 s52, with eBay SS headers > Flowmaster y-pipe > 2.5" piping > Borla muffler (not an XR-1) > 2.5" piping > 2.5" Vibrant Street Power muffler.

I am curious what model Borla muffler you are running in the center. Pro XS ? why didnt you run the XR-1 ? was it still too loud ?

Hey everyone I need some help with my exhaust. Right now I have a stock m20 and everything is stock. I wanted to get a stromung cat-back just to make my car sound a lil better. Though first I need to pinpoint the exhaust leak, because if it's not leaking after the cat then it'll still sound like shit right? haha. If it is indeed leaking somewhere past the cat, then I'll opt for a stromung cat-back. I was wondering however, would it be better to just save up and get a complete exhaust from the headers all the way down? I want to keep this a street-legal car so I definitely need to have a cat.

If I got the stromung, would I still be able to piece together a very nice exhaust later on while still incorporating that stromung cat-back? I see someone in the earlier pages has done just this. I'm not really looking for any performance gains, I just want my car to sound bad-ass when the revs climb, but I don't want any droning on the highway.

I was thinking maybe to just get the stromung cat-back and leave everything else along until I get a swap next year, in which case I can sell the stromung and then piece together an exhaust for the new motor. At least by that point I should know a bit more about exhausts, I'm still pretty much a newbie right now. If I could get a nice-sounding cat-back without droning for around $400 that would be kick-ass, however I couldn't really find anything cheaper than a stromung that most people said is still enjoyable//not annoying on the freeway.

Any advice appreciated. I've also been considering just keeping my exhaust stock until I go through with the engine swap next year for the sake of saving money, but my exhaust sounds like total shit right now. It almost sounds like a turbo at high revs haha.. but at normal speeds it sounds like shit, should I just fix the leak and forget an aftermarket cat-back?

not to everyones taste, but inspired by the Schnitzer 850CSi. i would put another muffler on the otherside (connected up of course) but im not butchering my genuine tech2 kit :D

3 chambered magnaflow 2" 1/2 inlet outlet with a 3" turn down tip.

3" down pipe into high flow 3" cat.

Very quiet at highway speeds no droning at all and quiet at idle.

I know its lame lol , Stock eta dual piping from headers to cat and res. after that 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 some cheapo muller to dual 2 inch tips . Sounds great , Load at low rpms and smooths out up top. Not bad for 25 bux and i will change the tips soon.

shitty vid, picks up to much wind sound, the muffler is much louder

Never did post up the Vibrant. Nothing under the car, maybe later. Good thing is the trans comes out without the exhaust getting in the way.

want to remove the convertor for another muffler, just a little too loud for me right now

you know what my car sounds like its loud as all hell.... even with 2 mufflers.. im ditching the center muffler for a cat / stright pipe... Vband flanges for the win.

SS rep long tube headers, 2.5" exhaust, Magnaflow 2.5" round center muffler, 2.5" in 3" out vibrant muffler.

it's the vibrant and magnaflow that are making it loud. vibrants are nicely made (I like the tips), but they're not going to be quiet. ditch the magnaflow and get a borla. if you added a short cat section before the borla it would get even quieter.

not on yet, will be going on when car is turbo. Car will have no mid pipe muffler or cat. Just a three inch pipe from that turbo back. Muffler will be flat black to make it more discrete.

The turbo is a rebuilt egay t70 with some name brand internals.

Built this thing Saturday and I couldn't be happier with the sound. Believe it or not, its quieter than than the stock center section/manifolds at cruising speeds but absolutely screams at heavy throttle over 4k rpm. No drone whatsoever. Incredible sound and huge weight savings, too. I need to tweak a couple things to get it up a little closer to the body, but overall it rocks. I'll try to snap some pictures this week.

Going to try and get it on the dyno at some point this week to see what the gains were.

X2 Vibrants are very loud. I've had my Vibrant at the end of my system, with 5 different piping/center muffler/resonator set-ups, and they've all been loud. I love the tone it gives, but it took a while to figure out the perfect set-up that was loud, but still street-able.
