On E30 transplants, using the E34 oilpan is a proven safe way to avoid starvation in even the most extreme conditions. (Mike Akard's car is an excellent example). On E36 cars, the dual pickup system is adequate for most competitive scenarios where a car is run for short duration. A cost effective way to ensure constant oilpressure would be an accusump."
Just reading this and your previous post about it.... You said "oil starvation under braking" Braking = no throttle = no load
What happens with a E34 pan setup when youre flooring it out of a corner, all the oil flys to the back where there is no pickup. =Starvation.I Timothy 2:1-2Comment

I don't doubt what you are saying, but why would BMW move to an expensive dual pick-up set up if the single pick-up was enough?I Timothy 2:1-2Comment

Would love to see another E30 with an S54 running video. Seen about 3-4 start-ups on YTube...Azevedo's is only one I have seen in person and running smoothly...where are you in LI? Maybe we can meet at the shop, chat amongst BMW tuners. PM me. I have an S50 S/C set-up on my e30M3.Comment

Yup I know that. With stand alone or stock ecu...think about it, the engine has been around since 2001 you'd think there should be a lot of swaps by now, there isn't. Getting it started is an easy task, but once you put load and getting it to run smoothly is another story.Comment

I'm 99% certain that I could run an S54 off the 413. I've already done most of the ground work on the M54 and the difference would be that the cam control solenoids are different, but actually easier to control on the S54, and that the cam sensor wheels are different. And I would't need to worry about DISA.
I even have an electronic throttle control done.
Then I would need Matt and Michael at TRM to tune and re-scale the chip for 8000 rpms.
The biggest obstacle is that I just need an S54 in my garage!Last edited by hoveringuy; 08-04-2010, 09:09 AM.Comment

OEM ecu, yes. OEM S54 ecu... not so much.
