Andrew's DIY Guide for S54 Wiring Adapter Harnesses
What is the turn around time for S54 harness in 98 e36? I also have questions on how this works with the stock harness. I have both a E46 M3 and Z3M harness, which is perferred?

I did the swap in a 95 M3, so my harness would be only slightly different from yours.
Use the Z3M S54 harness, as it routes the harness closer to the stock ECU tray. Depending on the year your engine is from though, you may need to convert to the earlier air rail-- the Z3M harness does not have connectors for the large check valve on top of the air rail.
Andrew's harness worked like a charm. One connector is NLA so we had to cut and re-pin one plug (I forget which) from the Z3M harness to match, but it wasn't anything more than a few minutes of effort.
You will still need transmission harness and O2/ignition coil harnesses, which should have come with the engine.
