Has anyone confirmed any other rear differential fitments aside from the stock E30 diffs? Looking for the best option since I'm using the GS6-17bg and no longer using the small case 4.10 that came with my 318is.

I know Striker01 using a custom shaft significantly simplifies the need for any other modifications to the rear diff, just not sure if any other options exist

I don't know, using my stock medium case.

If you're keeping the E30 subframe, then you're pretty much tied to the E30 case- the flange ears on the front of the diff are unique to the E30.

Does anyone know if the Getrag 260 will bolt up to the N52? I live in Hawaii and I don't have other transmission options locally. I have a '86 325e and I'm trying to plan my engine swap and there is a crashed '06 X3 3.0si for cheap that I could use.

No, not like any DOHC motor before it, won't mate to the G260

The transmission mounts are close but there is an extra bolt compared to the m20 & m5x. Adapter plates exist for zf8/dct to m5x so you may be able to use them backwards.

Isn't there a starter motor issue, too?

An E46er who adapted an 8hp had a whole saga of having to
get the bellhousing welded to hang the starter for the M5x engine...

wants an N52 and an 8hp in his e39 wagon...

8HP has been done by multiple people now for the N52, it's native to that motor.

8hp was used in early f10's & f25's with n52's. They all used the msv90 ecu, not sure if those have been hacked. But there are plenty of aftermarket controllers for 8hp that you could probably run anything.

Guess I need to start shopping for a rear- ended 2010 528i, huh?

Yeah, I must be getting old, but what excites me about this project is
programming the 8HP to do what I want it to do. Really? I want to
                      play with an automatic transmission???
                      yup, get off my lawn....

From what I've gathered so far, I can run the N52 on a BMW- native DME,
but the transmission is going to have to be run by something like the Turbo Lamik
controller, simply so I can have control over all of it?

                      oops, threadjack.
                      I blame that darned cloud.

This belongs in the 8-speed options thread? I can't wait to see the first 8hp e30 with an N52!!

even worse- I want to do this to my E39 wagon.
Because an LS swap is so... booorrriiinnngggggg....
and too generically old- guy hotrodder.

This will be a completely 'nother thread. Can't wait to block the silencer ports so I can sound like a Hellcat.

You'll need the whistling exhaust manifolds to, if that's what your going for
