I have been doing it by hand with a rag and water ......if i had a tooth brush it would helped a lot. I also removed about everything in the engine bay to get EVERYWHERE i could. -
Let me know if you figure out a decent way to clean that, cause mine is a dirty hooker under there.Leave a comment:

SO i have spent the past 4 hrs cleaning my engine bay.........the only thing that sucks about having a white car is it is a bitch to clean cause if you miss one spot its like HELLO IM RIGHT HERE LOOK AT ME!!!!!! But the engine bay is getting cleaned. Under the ABS unit was the dirtiest part, holy crap that spot is a dirt magnet.Leave a comment:

So I was looking at the motronic that I have and my ix has the 351 motronic. I also have a 525 red lable motronic ( no it didn't come out of a 525. That's the last 3 did gets on the motronic). If I decided to switch them for some reason would it do any damage or make the car run wierd? Please don't say throw it in and try it cause the motor I'd being build right now and I can't do that.Leave a comment:

Maybe grab the coupler from a part-out.... http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=319659
I hated paying for a new one. Especially since it did nothing to improve the handling. ...although I was tracking down a mysterious handling issue. Which ended up being a worn CV joint along with Summer tires that tramlined like crazy.
BTW - most attitudes on iXs are.... well.... "bitchy". :)Leave a comment:

I would assume that the ix rack is stronger than the RWD rack as well. the steering coupler is significantly different. Also the iX rack is located differently than the RWD rack... not sure the degree to which the shaft and coupler are separable, but that certainly bears on the shaft.
With power steering, the torque on the steering shaft should never exceed the cracking torque on the spool valve, so unless that's higher on the iX than on the RWD cars, I don't see why a higher torque coupler would be necessary.Leave a comment:

Useful info-Owners are reporting that outer ball joints on the iX seem to need replacement at 120K-150K miles. Replacement ball joints are available (Zygmunt Motors, 215-348-3121) which can be pressed into the lower arms at a cost of about $40 each. BMW only sells the whole assembly lower arm assembly at a cost of $250-350 for parts for each side. Bekkers (800-624-5410) sells the arm assembly for around $180.Leave a comment:
