    Ix rear springs broke

1991 325ix. I have both rear springs broken!
    1. Is that normal?
    2. I wonder if I can replace with fwd rear springs? (I have cut a coil off the front) 3. Any suggestions ( besides new ones$$$)?
Ps. The idea is to level the front and back.

No it's not normal for a spring to break if a spring broke it would most likely be from rust and I believe usually you are going to see a spring perch collapse before spring breaks. Are you sure the spring is broken or are you just saying that because the rear ride height is lower, because it may just be sagging. Chances are that you could find a similar height rear spring that is around 300lbs rate and just swap it in.

I have an extra set of stock ix springs and a set of h&r springs that I might be willing to sell

car looks super rusty. I'll bet the spring support has rusted away - but hopefully it's just the springs. :(

$20 on the rear perches being gone. I have a million spare rear iX springs though that I could sell you cheap if it turns out to be the springs.

The spring bottom loop is broken. I first noticed one side saggin but then the other side broke too. To be honest it’s been riding like this for over a year. Additionally. The only rust is battery box and both front fenders.

No hate from me - but I guarantee you if there's that much visible rust, there's more you can't see.

But if your spring perch isn't rusted, that's great! just get some used rear springs and enjoy. :)

There is definitely more than 20 holes you could poke a screwdriver through. Trust us. We have all been through it.

For your consideration... so what's the veredicto? Rusted through or fixable?

That spring definitely looks broken, but the rest of the underside looks surprisingly clean. Not saying there isn't rust, mind you, but you should be able to toss a new spring in there and keep going.

Seems to be a trend lately. Just sold my last set of rear ix springs for the same reason.

I also agree the rest of your undercarriage looks surprisingly clean for a northern daily ix.
