I read some past threads about VC rebuild and even purchasing new VCs. Does anyone know if new ones are available still? Any direction is appreciated or if someone has one, or a working TC, I would be interested.
I bought a brand new TC for like $800 a few years ago. I'm probably not the only one who saw this day coming. :(
Fortunately, they are possible to rebuild. The bummer is other critical parts, such as the chain, have been NLA for years now (thanks to the Plymouth Prowler dudes).
I just sold a good working VC for $550 last month. I have a good VC in my manual swap if you get desperate and want a whole manual swap to have as a spare. I also have another good VC in an auto tcase I haven't split yet but I need it.

I was told they dont make pins for the 1.75" chains anymore. All the OEMs have gone to two narrower chains instead of one large one. There was a 7/8" chain you could use, but you would have to machine the sprockets.
Which actually shouldn't be that difficult.
They are hard and it's an interrupted cut, but it shouldn't take much of a groove. 1-2 passes with a part-off cutter in a lathe should do it.
hmmm...I wonder if you could cut a split in the center of the gear teeth and run (2) 7/8" chains? one chain that size in place of one that was more than twice the width doesn't sound like a very long term fix.

Thanks for posting that link Bobbie. Now I can overhaul my spare transfer case with the VERY loose chain.
