I have a manual sunroof. The panel alone weighs a good 30lbs. The cf replacement will be roughly 1-3lbs. That and its an alternative to having to replace a rusty panel with another metal one that will most likely do the same thing.1991 318is - Daily/weekend track car.

The factory sunroof panel alone most certainly does NOT weight 30lbs. Id guess 5 to 10 pounds, maybe even a little less.Comment

absolutely...I couldn't care less about the weight, but I've been through two panels because of the damn rust.1991 318is --- currently not road worthy

The panel is only about 10lbs. the cassette that houses the entire sunroof setup is closer to 30lbs.. I have removed both.sigpic

Installation of our plug will be similar to that one above.
Updates coming tonight. I was gone for a few days so we're just now getting around to making the mold. I'll post progress pics in a few.1991 318is - Daily/weekend track car.

In your diffuser attempt, I only see 1 layer of cloth applied, is this correct? You need at least 3 layers for a properly stiff panel. If only one layer of cloth is applied, that is your reason for it not being stiff, especially on a large object like yours.
Vacuum bagging will help reduce weight as well as save on the costs of resin as it uses much less resin than a wet layup like your first attempt.Comment

For the diffuser, we will be layering it...we thought about it being too thin.
Sorry about the late updates...its been a long week already.
Also, forgive us for taking a bit on these pieces..we're trying not rush anything, if we're going to be selling these to forum members, we don't want to put our name on anything less then perfect quality!

Spraying the release wax...this was after applying release wax in paste form as well.

2 layers of fiberglass

I'm sure we could do the lip, but a splitter for the IS lip is coming 1st.
I would need to get another IS lip before making a mold for a full lip 1st though. Mine is pretty beat, its great for mocking up a splitter, but not replicating it.1991 318is - Daily/weekend track car.
