hate to dig up an old thread but i need more info on this subject.

      Where do you glue?
the foam pads on the c pilars between the rear windsheild and rear windows, can they be removed/replaced? mine are all decomposed.

i didnt have the pleasure of removing the headliner, i would take it to a shop but the one shop that has returned an email quoted me $425 just to install a pre cut headliner in.

all my lockstrips are already out i plan to trailer it to a shop if i go that way, but if i feel comfortable doing it i will do it and would appreciate all the info i can get.

The glue goes on the edge of the roof, at the windows and doors. Pretty much all along the outside edge of the headliner. And where it folds in to the sunroof opening, if that applies. I used a crapload of binder clips to hold mine in place while the glue set.

You should be able to replace those foam pieces.

any ideas as to what i should replace them with?

so the headliner is completely suspended in the middle just pulled tight like a tiger?

I would imagine that any fairly solid foam would work.

No, there are two metal rods over the back seat that hold it up.

alright just to get this clear, the dap stuff needs a spray gun, it cant be brushed on?

              front windshield must come out?

still wondering about those damn rear foam pillar deals.

change of plans, i remembered that we used contact cement from ACE hardware when i did my conv top, and those things get hot and the ribs are still solidly holding after 5 years, so im just gonna find more of that stuff, i actually thing it was dap weldwood, just not the landau stuff.

I do have a question though. i took the majority of the sunroof stuff out today, there are some chrome pieces that are installed over the old headliner that i cant seem to get off, how did you get around this?

Yes, windshield has to come out, the headliner is wrapped around all of the edges of the roof.

                  What chrome pieces?

its like the very bottom piece in the sunroof assembly it sits right on top of the headliner which is glued down to the foam underneath these pieces. i think they are the main tracks.

if the windshield has to come out whats the point of the sunvisor panel?

Sunvisor panel holds the sunvisors... ;) As well as the roof hardware.

The chrome piece is at the rear?

nah its on each side of the sunroof, under your cables in that picture, they have the channel the cable sits in

this is the best shot i can find of it from japandrews thread,

Ahh, that - IIRC, that does come out when you remove the long trim piece on the back there. It has some sort of putty holding it in place, but I am pretty sure that came out. Just make sure you remove it carefully and don't bend it.

That's what I did - very gently work a thin tool underneath and lift, it should come out. I don't believe there was much putty on it, it is mostly age keeping it in place after you remove that lockstrip holding it down.
