Several other threads floating around the lighting section discussing just light output and why it's important what kelvin you get so that you can see better.

I'm sure you bought your HID's for looks. I wouldn't go so far as to say the majority of people that buy them do so for looks.

I had sealed beams. So, no, I couldn't see the road in heavy rain (I live in WA State) with candles burning on the front of my car. Yes, it does look better but no, I did not buy it for looks. That's ricer. Sorry.
        Two words: Fog lights.

I don't think people run around all night with their HID fog lights on with their HID low beams so they can see the road better.

I understand where you're trying to say, but from what I've seen people mostly look at HIDs for looks, and I don't see how that in itself is ricer. There are ricer HID set-ups out there, plenty of them, but just having HIDs for the look doesn't make you a ricer, it depends on the color and how nicely contained they are, which contributes to the look of the car.

In the thread you linked, there were a lot of daytime shots. Do you really think they had their HIDs on during the day to see the road better? I'm not trying to be a dick, but I'm just trying to get my point across. I have sealed beams right now with euro smilies on order and probably gonna stick some of these DDM things behind 'em. I don't have any problems seeing the road with my sealed beams right now.

PS: There's a reason the lighting sub-forum is under "Appearance & Cosmetics" :D haha

i think lighting makes a huge difference in the appearance of the car. an e30 with its foglights on makes it look even lower to the ground. if they are HIDs, even better.

            Got me on that one.

I use them as a functional thing. The light output is paramount to the "looks" or cosmetics of the car. Cosmetically, I'm all for it though. I can't argue nor deny that HID's look better than Halogens ;)

Whew, I'm glad I was making some sense lol. I can't deny either that HIDs do offer much more light output than halogens, which is no doubt part (or in your case all) of the reason to get them. Anyway I'll be ordering my DDM set soon and we'll see how it goes! If I get high-beam'd by oncoming drivers more than 3 times in a few months then they're coming off straight away lol.

Bop 'em down a bit and it should take care of most high-beamage. When I first put my 6000k in my pass. side smiley was pointed a bit high and to the left. Only got flashed twice, but I dropped them down a bit and it solved it. Haven't been flashed since and couldn't be happier with the output or looks.

I do not give a fuck how my goddamn headlights look, I need to see.

This isn't fucking San Jose here, it RAINS...ALL THE TIME.

I lived in the bay area too, you got nothing on that, trust me.

HID = old man (me) seeing the damn road better.

DDM = cheapest source as all HID are close enough to be considered the same.

                  Closing SOON!

I had 3000ks in my E30 fogs. They probably aren't as bad as E36 fogs, but they still scatter noticeably. I liked them but when one of them turned burn orange suddenly I pulled them out and put some blanks in their place.

Realistically the 55w 6000k lows I have now are more than enough to see the road anyway, and the fogs did absolutely nothing in actual fog, even with the 3000k bulb color.

I am happy with the 35W kit at 5K in US spec ellipsoids.

I've got 55w 5k for my US Spec Ellipsoids and a 35w 3k for Fogs. The biggest thing for me was that new bulbs from Schmucks was going to run me near $20.00. At $25.00 I figured, 'eh why not! I need new bulbs ;)

I just put DDM 5k 55w HID's in my touring. Not as good as when I put them in my E39 (with new projectors) but still 1 million times better than stock.

Just put on the HID fogs (35w 3000k) and man, I'm a happy camper. Spreads the light to the sides a bit more and gives very slightly more light.

I'll man up and admit it though, Dnova... they look SO GOOD ;)
