I drilled on the side of the shock. It's a pretty big hole too. Could it just be seized?
How deep did the bit go in? You should take a smaller bit and drill another hole or drill into the same hole. I'd also give the bumper a couple good kicks with the bottom of you foot. Kinda a shoving action. Because you drilling the side it may not be come out. When you put pressure on it it may come oozing out.

The hole is all the way through. I guess I'll have to take it off again and mess with it...

I wouldn't take the bumpers off. Just drill a second hole with it on. I drilled a couple holes. Just give it a kick or a nudge or something. I used the palm of my hand on one side. I must be super strong though ;)

Drilled another set of holes. Tried the hammer, bashed it into a concreat wall. Nothing. I think I am just going to pick up another bumper and try again. I can get another for about 20 bucks. I give up on this one. F'ing pos bumper. Wish I had the plastic ones...

Oh I forgot....this is what I did on my front bumper. I as well couldn't for the life of me get the front bumper to go in. I removed the bumper and shocks and then I took the shocks off the bumper. Now that I had the two shocks by themselves I stood the up and hit the top with a hammer (larger the better ;)) and got it to move. Once you get it to move it will be fine. Seriously try it. If I was anywhere near you I'd come over and take on these evil bumper shocks with you!

A good way to compress your shocks if you dont have a press is that you can use your cars weight to compress the shocks. Since i was replacing my rotors my car was on jack stands to begin with so i slowly jacked up the car removed the jackstands and slowly lowered the car with no wheels on onto my bumper shocks in little holes that are in the crossmember where your steering rack is at. Now this is kinda dangerous so don't get crushed by your car if you don't feel comfortable doing it. Another thing you can do is if you have two jacks you can jack up the car with one of the jacks and with the other you can place the shock on the jack and lift up your car with the jack and it will compress the shock.

I get what he is saying. Use the cars weight to compress them. The only thing is, if putting the bumper up against a solid concrete wall and flooring it doesn't work I don't think 500 pounds is going to get it to go in. I guess I can try the sledge hammer option while the shocks are out of the car. Or just wait till a 89-91 shows up at one of the junk yards. I already have the valance. just need the bumper and shocks.

Ok I took the mofo off again, just the bumper, and left the shock on the car. Then I took a sledge hammer and beat the shit out of the shocks till they got unstuck. Now when I go to push it in up against a tree it goes in all the way then it bounces back out about 4 inches. I know for a fact that there is not a drop of oil in those damn shocks. WTF! Why won't it stay in????????
