Simple question W.A.R. chip or MS? Want to boost my M20 on a tight budget, I will want to tune myself so which one is easier to tune because of lack of knowledge when it comes to tuning.

I use a Moates emulator & Tunerpro with a Innovate Motorsports wideband
Car, Tuning, ECU, ECM, PCM, Calibration, Modify, Scan, Scanner, OBDI, OBD1, OBDII, OBD2, GM, General Motors, Ford, Subaru, BMW, Renault, Volkswagen, VW, Motronic, LT1, LB9, L98, Firebird, Camaro, Mustang, Moates, Buell, Ducati, Nissan, DSM, Mitsubishi, Diamond Star Motors, EECV, EEC V, EECIV, EEC IV
The newest breed of emulator has evolved! This is the newest Ostrich, the 2.0 unit. It is extremely small and compact, durable, versatile, and powerful. Full 921.6k speed, from 4k (2732A) up to 512k (4mbit 29F040) and everything in between (27C128, 27C256, 27C512).

Megasquirt all the way. You can build a megasquirt 1 for under $200 and the tuning is way more accurate

But
(Megasquirt is worth looking into for sure)

Definition files exist for a large number of OBDI GM applications. MS is a waste of time on those applications because the stock ECM is so much more sophisticated.

What can the unlocked motronic do that megasquirt cannot? Or what does it do beter? I have not heard many say afm > speed density

big hp and going fast says nothing about an ECU IMO.89 E30 325is Lachs Silber - currently M20B31, M20B33 in the works, stroked to the hilt...

aside from that, the resolution is poor and Motronic is pretty damn slow. no real time tuning, no datalogging, narrowband sensors, switch based TPS, no acceleration enrichment, etc.

With a 3 bar MAP sensor and hacked code, a $30 7730 can run Hi-Z injectors on a big power small block Chevy, or a $50 7749 can run Lo-Z injectors on same.
Of course they also need ~$300 emulator and tuning software, but result in very good drivability as well as high power. The biggest shortcoming is that the GM OBDI VE tables stop in the realm of 5000 RPM, except for the Quad 4 code masks... but those were never boosted.
Originally posted by nando View Postno, even the best MAF systems for Motronic are still pretty buggy, because MAF based algorithms and what Motronic uses (closer to speed-density) are very different.

DIY SLC from 14point7.com is the AFR meter that I went with, it was the cheapest wideband I could find.
I got 315cc/min injectors from one of my old cars, a turbo volvo, and threw them in the fuel rail. paired with megasquirt, it's overall been pretty damn cheap for a standalone.'84 318i M10B18 147- Safari Beige
