I haven't done a used oil analysis on the M20, yet, but I have been using rotella in my turbo cars for years. It's pretty useless and anecdotal information, I know, but Rotella works for me based on the reading I've done and the experiences I've read about/had. The stuff isn't expensive, and I don't bother with synthetics since I don't track the car and keep short oil change intervals (4-5,000mi). If I weren't so cheap I'd probably buy synthetic oil but I'd make sure to pick one with a decently high ZDDP concentration, because old flat tappet engine.

You can put whatever oil you want without flushing.
There's one HUGE difference between synthetic, and that's syn has the ability to hold sheer and keep higher viscosity at higher temps.
We had success using M1 15-50, but have switched to the LiquiMoly Race Tech 10-60. We saw an increase in idle oil pressure in summer after a long stint, or in a turbo cars that has been beat on. M1 is at Walmart for like $26 an oil change, the LiquiMoly is not quite double if you shop around.
