    simple hidden m20 perfomance?

ive been looking for cheaper "simple" ways to find more power in the m20 engine and i found some forum saying "get an adjustable cam gear because you can advance the gear 30 degrees to counter the bmws timing retarding"is this true?also are there any other sensors i can delete to gain horsepower?
i would do more reasearch but im using my cell phone and dont have time, plus why not ask a BMW forum?
    thanks from you e30 "noobie"

    The short answer is no.

A good chip will give you the most bang for the buck.

Correct, the only "cheap way" to get more power out of an M20 engine is a chip and that isn't much. The engine, out of the box is in a pretty high state of tune, especially an M20B25.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

It's actsually 27* for cam gear, but have to run 97oct or it will detonate!

Now is most bang for buck, m20's are proven on stock internals at 120shots with cai and exhaust work

            turboturboturbo.

but that's not so cheap or simple, really, when you get right down to it.

This guy has a valid point besides the 30 degrees I've heard of stuff more along the lines of 5 degrees I don't remember the name of the thing that does it.

its called an adjustable cam gear, all i know.

ok sorry for sarcasm, but here is what you can do

chip-turner, IE, markD, ect big name brand is best
17lb injectors from m50-works with stock ecu, better than your 14lbs in there now.
19lbs injectors and chip-best bang for buck
free up the exhuast-weight reduction, sounds good, if you remove the cat helps top end a tad
castros air box, intake with heat shield, or all in one kamotors intake-sounds better than stock, few HP and cleans up engine bay
miller maf-helps more with throttle response
MAINTENANCE-spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, oil change, address any intake leaks
4.10LSD-wont be more power but will make it feel torquey-er, i was chirping the tires into third and a stock m20 with a 4.10

i cant see why anyone would screw around with oldschool chips and CAI when there are providers who sell products and provide proof that it actually works.

You can't change the cam timing much before valves start meeting pistons. Changing cam timing will move the the peak torque, but it will have a negligible affect of total power.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Tim, look at it like this: if the huge team of "top of their class" engineers at BMW could have made more power reliably they would have done so...horsepower sells, right?

Not trying to say BMW stock street motors are the end all of performance, just saying making any appreciable difference is going to require something more than just random forum bullshit, adjusting something or (especially) removing a sensor.

                              simple?

about the only thing you can do for "free" is adjust the intake valves to .008" (leave exhaust at .010")

everything else will require spending money. even adjusting the cam timing (retard 2* for a tiny bit more top end) will cost around $100 in parts. you can't just move the belt 1 tooth because it's too far.

as the others say, you can't really do much by changing random parts. everything was tuned together, so if you want a decent improvement, basically everything needs to be upgraded/replaced at once, as a system.
