As to the bevel, it's a by- product of how the auto teeth are formed.
The rounded shape makes the sheet metal less liable to crack when it's stamped
then indented for the teeth. They're not ground in, like a manual ring gear.

The Bentley's referring to the manual transmission starter ring, which DOES have
a different tooth shape- it's actually back- cut so that there's less chance that the
starter gear will bang into a flat edge.
But those teeth are ground into a solid ring, so they can be shaped differently.

Just be glad you dont have an auto ix that you put the flywheel in backwards as i did. What a nightmare.

I thought this was a plausible explanation until you said this:

Well, there's a firing order problem- the eta and the i fire in different orders...
Can you jsut swap plug wires around? I would think so...

If you resolve that, then you need to drill the bosses on the eta head to oil the i cam.

Beyond that, I know nothing!
