    copper HG spray...Anyone use it?

I'm having my HG replaced later this week by a reputable mechanic and I DON"T want to be doing this job again in a year or two!

Any good reviwes? I have the VR HG set, but I'm using a BMW OEM HG for the install.

    thanks in advance

ive not used it and dont think its neccesary for a stock gasket. last time i did a HG i used a Goetze, and time before that a BMW dealer unit no problems with both

No but have used it on exhaust gaskets a lot.

It's unnecessary unless you're using a MLS gasket, and even then it still doesn't really work that well (at least in my experiences)

No sort of sealant is needed, or helpful, if the head and block are flat and clean. Of equal importance is chasing and cleaning the threads in the block. Well, and using new head bolts.

I used it when I did my head gasket, had no problems with it.

Many recommend the copper spray for the MLS gasket. MLS doesnt recommend it and I have not used it on my MLS gaskets and have had no problems. Also with stock gaskets i have used sealant and also not used sealant and had no issues. As stated the best way to provide a good sealing surface it so make sure the head and block surfaces are are flat and clean as possible.

First, check that OE headgasket: if it says Victor/Reinz, take it back. As far as I know, the real OE gasket has been gone for years. Goetz is a great choice IMO, I have yet to have any failures at all.

Second, BMW wants it installed dry, I would not use copper spray. This isn't a chebby, don't use chebby tricks on BMWs.

Fresh stretch bolts and a good gasket generally last 20 years or more.

If I were you, I would also do fresh intake manifold gaskets, new throttle body gaskets and a couple of others I can't remember right now that don't come with the set. Oh yeah, hot water passage on the TB too, those always crap out after only 25 years or so.

Best of luck, go kick its ass!

I have it works great. My engine block was pitted from corrosion so I used some of that on the goetze hg and it hasnt leaked sence

I would say that it probably won't hurt anything. It may not help anything either, but there's a chance it might. That being said, when I replace my head gasket in the next few weeks I will use it. I will also NOT be using a Victor Reinz head gasket.

I use it all the time. never had a problem. what it really seems to help with is keeping the gasket stuck to the surface while you fit everything together and tighten it down.

I've seen VR head gaskets hold 1krwhp. And work fine for years on a few of my cars

Copper spray I've used a few times; it's good to make gasket assured not move.
