Car is still running strong. Met with the owner at the Daytona race since he lives a few blocks from the track. Didn't have a camera it phone in me, but the cage was cut out, glass reinstalled, along with a super mint interior. He keeps telling me he wants the car to come back for a bigger cam and the better techniques we have for head flow, but is hesitant since the car runs and drives so great as it is. Says it starts instantly every time, and turned heads everywhere he goes.

forged pistons do not burn oil unless something is done incorrectly or the wrong parts are used.
OE pistons are expensive, though you should be able to find a new set cheaper than a forged set if you shop around. then you have to go and modify a brand new set to make them fit

I definitely want cast pistons and not forged. I don’t want to deal with constant oil burning... I wonder how much the OEM pistons cost. Wish I had just bought the 85mm Mahle Pistons when I had the chance to pay under a grand for them

its 84 mm stroke, 84.5 mm bore (i think it was +0.5 mm) OE pistons, 130 mm rod

Just finished going through this thread and I remember seeing this car for sale not too long ago...
What were the specs to get it to 2.8L?

So, he decided to put the car up for sale and buy a more manageable street/track car to avoid having to trailer this one to/from the track.
It was hitting top speed at Daytona, and having to feather it with the needle buried at 7000rpm with the 4.10 and 225/50-15 slicks. With a larger cam and 3.73, this thing would be even crazier. He went with GC coils, BBK, and stripped the car down to 2400lb sans driver.

Epic thread! Just the kind of motivation I needed as I'm planning my m20 build...

Replacement head has been machined and is on the bench. Between this and the other e30 being ready for the 14hr race in Atlanta, Murphy's Law is in full effect.
