just did injectors and it was easy, didn't need to remove valve cover or the intake manifold.
19lb injectors did not make the car run rich at all with the stock AFM.
after driving with the injectors i got the 1231 fault code but the car runs awesome so, i just reset the battery, the new injectors probably confused the ECU a little.
and i'm bored.
how to change injectors on vehicles with a solid electrical rail
1. unhook battery.
2. unhook manifold bracket and valve cover breather hose then bend it out of the way.
3. unhook the 2 sensors in the thermostat housing area.
4. get a flat head screw driver and push the little clips in(they barely move but that's all it takes)
5. unhook the plug on other side of the intake manifold, located under the intake boot area.
6. pry up on the electrical rail.
7. put the electrical rail out of the way.
8. undo the 4 10mm bolts connected to the intake manifold.
9. clean the area up then unhook all the hoses to the rail.
10. pull up on the rail until the injectors pop out of the head.
11. then undo the 6 injector clips
12. slide the rail over a little then start prying the injectors out of the rail.
13.put the o-rings of the new injectors in clean motor oil and place them into the head.
14. reinstall the fuel rail.
15. reinstall everything else.
16. try to start car(may take a while)
17. go for a drive.
the '027' AFM does not need to be adjusted. If the previous owner said he moved it two clicks then it was not an '027' AFM. I say it would be worth it to find one on your own and see if it works. With the '027' IT IS A DIRECT SWAP OUT. Dont buy an adjusted one thinking its going to work. Just pop the cover off of the AFM and do the same to your stock one. Make sure everything is in the same exact position in the '027' as in your stock AFM. If its not then I would recommend putting the spring on the '027' AFM in the same location and position as the stock one.
Check it out and see what you find.

but is is a 027... hopefully its not messed up, the last 027 i had didn't work.
wow, I got the new AFM today(the one that was "tuned"), and at first the car ran bad, black smoke out the exhaust and what not, then it cleared up, but idle was a little weird and the check engine light comes on occasionally, and now.......... my car runs amazing it pulls really good, when i set it to cruise control going up the highway it pulled so good i was shocked, normally it has to down shift but it just kept on pulling in 4th gear all the way up to 6000ft elevation. For those who haven't done this swap i recommend it.
Now it only has 1 problem if i'm cruising while not on the gas for more than 1 minute the check engine light will come on and as soon as i touch the gas it goes off.
what cars did the 027 come on. i went through the junk yard searched like 5 5 series and found most striped of the afm and boot one with an m20 and another with the 016 afm

today i reset the battery so i could get rid of all the old fault codes, but now the cars acting like its has to relearn the fuel injectors and AFM again. does resetting battery mean it has to relearn everything?
wierd... I did a few 0-60 runs after the computer was fully adjusted and they were all really good, but after i reset the computer and then went to do 0-60 runs the car ran waaaaay faster is spun the tires on take off even though it could barely idle and the check engine light would sometimes come on, but then after it adapts and idles perfect it runs not as fast. does the car de-tune itself after the computer relearns the 19lb injectors and AFM?
Motronic only has one variable to adjust the amount of fuel up and down globally - that means if it's changing the variable to get a good lambda at idle, it's going to affect the entire map, and vice versa. which is why the whole idea of "plug and play" M30 AFMs is so stupid.

I got mine off a 530i and ut to get one off a 535i. You want a M30 motor so don't look at a 525i.
