    325i M20 alternator

Does anyone know a good source for an alternator?

Bosch have a 90A p/n AL49X as a re manufactured unit but based on the pictures it appears that some OE one are isolated with rubber bushes and this isnt? can anyone confirm?

I have noticed that some have bushings and some don't. I don't know which models came with which, it seemed random to me.

It seems that it may be the 80A or ones from e30 m3 with bushings.

M10, S14, and M20 up to 11/85 have rubber mounted 80A alternators. The solid mounted one is 90/95A and a direct bolt on replacement.

don't get one with bushings....it's a common mod to install solid alum. bushings to replace stock as they fail. No bushing...no failures....BMW finally figured it out later on...there is no need for them in the alt.

yeah the bushed are the 80A variants buylooks of it. bought a AL49x solid connection. was more concerned about the OE being bushed and the el cheapo solid.

I remember reading about it. Bosch had a few different pulleys, 2 piece, keyed and non-keyed. The consensus is it will be fine without a key. Install/torque the pulley correctly and belt will slip way before the pulley will.

I'll probably just reuse the pulley and if the original in non keyed I'll just replicate that.

The bushing and non-bushed alternators are almost identical - save the front cover. If you have a used non-bushed alternator and a new bushed unit, just remove the bolts and swap covers.

Honestly, it's been a bit since I have seen a bushed reman alternator - almost a decade to be less than exact.
