I have been toying with this idea for a while. the biggest hurdle I can think of is how to mount it to the transmission. No TDI came in a rear wheel drive setup except for a Volvo, but that transmission was a piece of shit. I'd like to make an adapter plate and mount it direct to the g260. Thoughts?

not really that hard, if you have contacts/resources and design skills and the ability to measure. do it!

Also not shure what is takes to convert a cars fuel-system to diesel?
Converting to diesel fueling is easy. Yank out the fuel pump and put a straight pipe in there, though you can also use a low pressure pump like a Carb'd car. Ive done it on my VWs Ive owned in the past.

Ive found a few TDI setups just north of the border for a good price (about how much a good 885 head would cost me) so I am really thinking of going for it. Im buying another car tomorrow to drive around on so I wont need to rush this, but I cant be lazy about it either.
Right now, my brain is thinking about the flywheel, does anyone have a stock one they can measure? I know the VW one is 210mm so if its close that is a good startSimon

ok did some research...
The M10 flywheels are 215mm so those are close to the factory 210mm VW flywheels, the M20 flywheels are over 220mm. Called JB racing to see if they could cut me a custom flywheel and they said they could, but it would be between $500-$1000!!
Soooo, I took another look at the ACME adapters and the toyota transmission adapter and flywheel is $595 so thats a LOT more cost effective. Especially when I found a Toyota 5 speed for $107. I think this is the route I will end up going...
Trying to arrange to go to Canada to get my TDI motor this weekend. we'll see how this goes.Simon

Check out HPA motorsports kit they sell for the Jeeps. They take a VW TDI engine and switch to mounting it longitudinal and works great for them, I am sure something similar can be adapted to be BMW trans.
This is a great idea, I would love a TDI E30!www.eurowinnipeg.com

Paging Mike and Jake from Left Lane Cars, they do a ton of TDI swaps(in VWs) but they also play with BMWs. I bet they could provide valuable insight.sigpic
