Mutty, the M30 weighs about 315lbs. Call me crazy but I think I remember seeing higher numbers than that for the S52s because of all the heavy valvetrain stuff...

Edit: A quick google search showed a weight of 160kg (roughly 352lbs) for the M52. I don't know how accurate that is or if its including the accessories, but if its true then it definitely leaves the M30 standing as the lighter of the two engines.

I wish I had a scale then I can measure m52 vs m30 long blocks + accessories to compare since they both are on engine stands...

If you are correct ,shark, why is this craze about the 24v swap? Is it just hype? The numders seem to be in the m30b35 favour. Now I am wondering if I wasted all my savings on an s52/6-speed swap. Somebody need to a weight/whp/wtq/mileage comparison on these swap.I am literally begging my mechanic to hold onto this motor for me. What is your mpg Euroshark/Jean?

i'll let you know MPG tonight for the b34 swap and i was doing burnouts this morning...

but as far as the 24v vs. m30 its a matter of a more modern motor that the hype is about... people dont want to "downgrade"...

the m30 is bullet proof, easy, and you have power all thru the rev's instead of just when vtac kicks in ;)

          i <3 my M30!

and im b34... could only imagine b35...

M30 vs M/S5X are apples and oranges. Each one has it's positives and negatives IMHO.

I like the simplicity of the m30, it's like a huge m10 and I just like how "period correct" it would be in the e30 chassis.

Took the alternator out and had it bench tested, hows 14.26 volts. I'll do the same with the starter in the next few days.

Yes you are right about being bulletproof and having power through the entire rpm range; but is it not the essence of the swap, plus getting it done on the cheap? I envy you guys. Moreso because the m30b35+265 is at the shop where my swap was/is done.

I get about the same mileage as my turbo m20 with the b35.
Not horrible, but can only imagine when it gets boosted. :( lol

Could of gone m50, but the torque of the m30 won me over
F- vanos, and fuel economy. :P

                  Hold on.
Is there something that makes the M52 special or is
that the same thing as the M50 in terms of weight?

LOL!! I used to average like 27 in my 533i and I usually do 23 to 24 in my 535is. My 6er with the B35 (now header equipped!) usually gets around 16 or 17 but I drive that thing like a maniac.

you do realize that vanos is for TQ right? Its only for the lower RPM's to help in-town cruising.

Not much happening this weekend it being mothers day, but in the next week or two it should be put back together.

What usually goes first, connecting rod or main bearings? I see autohausaz sells standard connecting rod bearings set 11241258428/6 for only $48; 2nd oversize main are 11211261037 for 66 or standard 11211261033 at 96 a set.
