*89 325is Auto to Manual Conversion

Hi everyone, Hoping to get some help from anyone about my conversion. I got a older model Getrag 260 with a metal shifter plate not the aluminum shifter carrier. Anyone know how to mount rear part of the the metal shifter plate to the tunnel or any bracket that I can mount to the transmission so I can use the newer style aluminum shifter? Any info or comment is really appreciated. Thank You

You can look at the transmission and tell immediately if it will fit the newer shifter carrier (does it have mounting ears?), if it doesn't you will have to either custom make some method to adapt it or find someone who makes one. Search the donor car on realoem and you'll find all of the part numbers necessary to rebuild an early shifter if the transmission lacks the mounting ears for the late one and you don't feel like figuring an adapter out.

The thing you are doing has been done hundreds of times before. I found all of this on google in less than the time it took to write this post:

Here is my G260 with the plate style carrier. If you have the mounting ears (circled in red), you can convert to the newer style carrier.

Also note that you'll need some short bolts (16mm?) for blocking off the old plate style shift carrier mounting spots (installed with Curil K2 or other thread sealant.)

I guess your other option is to go with a Chassis mount shifter.

I have a CRS in my car that I like, but it wasn't a bolt-on affair. Needed some customization to work how I wanted.

Yeah, I guess I have to go with chassis mounted option also. How are they as far as vibration? I heard you get a lot of vibration since you have to also change your trans and engine mount with harder ones.

I am using OEM rubber mounts for both engine (E28 for 24v swap) and trans (ZF320) without issue with the CRS shifter. No added NVH in my case.

Can't speak to other chassis-mount designs as to whether they require stiffer mounts.
