It may be a good idea to get the transmission opened up and inspected. These transmissions often have worn syncros. To make it worse, there are no replacment syncro units that we know of. Just a good idea to check before installing it in the car.

(although not the best solution, syncromesh fluid often helps worn syncros but it is best to address the issue instead)

      Jean got a zf310 5 speed, I think you're thinking of the 6 speed.

Yep, went with 5 speed, way cheaper/lighter and seems from what I read more reliable as well. Personally I don't need 6th gear, as it's not a daily.

Purchased garagistic boosterless bracket hardware today :) Now to figure out what pedals and masters to get. You guys have any suggestions on how to pick the right stuff?

I got the wilwood reverse pedal mount, firewall mounting.

3/4" master for clutch and rear brakes, 13/16" master for front brakes

Down to just flywheel / clutch kit / and wilwood pedals / masters as far as major hardware left to source. e30m60 mounts /subframe spacers / boosterless pedal bracket hardware arrived, thanks Garagistic!

Last week I picked up a 1995 m60b40, has a DOT R stickers on it, I was told by a local bmw tech that it was replaced sometime in the past under warranty but it's not alusil lol. I am going to get the m60b40 running first to get it through BAR, then finish m62block with b40 heads and swap it after, that way I could dyno the two back to back as well.

My DD failed smog, and needed some maintenance, and tires, and shocks, and blower motor quit working..... Bilstein is super behind and I am on week 7 week now waiting for my shocks. Gotta love it.

Can't wait to see it put on. You're going to love the boosterless seup. Matt @ garagistic was the shit at helping with it all as well.

Finally started actually making progress on this.

Replaced the rod bearings and the rod bolts today, cleaned up the block a little bit.

In the two weeks I should have the bottom end done. Have all the parts, just need to assemble the oil pump and find where I put all the bolts for the oil pan(s).

I do need to bleed all the hydraulic lifters to make sure they are all okay and install them in the rebuilt heads as well.

And here is a spare m60b40 block that I had hot tanked for my brother to use as a 'coffee/wine' table.

Looks damn minty, and it's sooo light!

                            Upper chain tentioners are next.

Did you take any photos of the primary timing chain idler before you bolted on the lower timing cover?
