What I am more interested in with the X pipe is performance. Seems like everyone on the Internet has there own pros and cons. And there is a shit ton of dyno sheets proving either or is a better setup. I was just looking for some R3v input on it.
Would probably be a big pain in the ass to do on a V8 e30.

The exhaust has a lot to do with sound... but so does the exhaust cam and firing order... so if you're running production manifolds and production exhaust cams, the foundation for sounding like a production engine is there.
The C6 ZO6 and ZR1 sound notably different. The ZO6 has an H-pipe, the ZR1 has an X-pipe.
For best effect, the X-pipe needs to be as closer to the manifolds as possible... getting it closer than 5 feet in a BMW is difficult.

Well, the theory is to help exhaust pulses flow, one cylinder pulling the next, but considering the design of the stock vanos manifolds, that theory mostly goes out the window IMO. I didn't notice any difference when I put my xpipe in, but my butt dyno isn't calibrated to the ~5whp or so that an xpipe might give you...
I think the place to really get power out of these engines is the manifolds. I have no proof of that other then the fact that the e39 m5 uses e34 manifolds, and even they can see huge gains with aftermarket headers. So the vanos manifolds must really be junk...

I have dual 2.5's to an x-pipe, to a magnaflow 12468. Sounds just like every other m6x out there. I think exhaust sound is mostly influenced by engine design, so I don't think you'll get that Maserati growl regardless of what exhaust you put on your m6x.
Just like the old Ford 5.0, you can instantly identify what it is, regardless of if it has a full stock exhaust, open headers, or anything in between.

That would be a awesome sound. I know that it's all about the sound waves inside the pipes and what the motor produces. The new mustangs 5.0 also sound sporty.

I need to figure out how to convert the monsterous Sound coming from Jack-N-Coke into the Epic sound that is emitted from the Masirati GT exhaust.

I would start by studying what system is already on there and what the aftermarket did to improve the sound.
The exhaust package consists of: Fabspeed 200cel HJS catalytic converters and fabspeeds secondary cat bypass pipes.
- Fits all Maserati Gran Turismo vehicles 2008+
- High quality 14-16 guage T304 stainless steel, C.N.C. mandrel bent tubing.
- Imported sports racing 200 cell tri-metallic catalytic converters replace the stock catalytic converters for optimum flow and increased power.
- Fabspeed catbypass with X-pipe replace the stock center resonator/X-pipe to relieve restrictions and enhance aggressive sound.
The catalytic converters being that close to the manifolds (Like the bmw X5 4.4 ) does sound better then the 540i so maybe there is something there... i know for me a car without Cats sounds too loud and too unrefined.. unless some really good resonators can take its place in quieting the noise down a bit.
