Originally posted by Budget Beateryes I finally got e34 automatic throttle position sensor (infact very cheap too). Now I have all the peices. As soon as I get this "stage 1" dyno with all the $50 mods I will then start doing the serious mods to see how much more power i can get out of the car. Im very optimistic that the gains should be substantial. Apexi + MAF Conversion + WCR Big Bore throttle body should totally transform the top end. I have a feeling a combo of the intake manifold and throttle body are really choking off the top end, cuz those 262 cams should be pulling much stronger much longer in the powerband but they aren't, so i have a feeling there is vast room for improvement. Once I do that I will get my custom crank pulley finished and install that too. Lot of BIG upgrades coming soon. my ultimate goal i will be 190-200 wheel HP on stock internals, i know its a very lofty goal and I most probably won't get close to it, but hey... a guy can dream can't he ;)Originally posted by chucknorrisOriginally posted by Budget Beater200 wheel HP on stock internals, i know its a very lofty goal and I most probably won't get close to it, but hey... a guy can dream can't he ;)
a 2.8i with MAF conversion and proper tuning with Unichip might not break 200hp, and you're going to do it with a 200k mile'd stock block hooptie special with a Apexi-SFC? hahahhaha.
you know nothing about these cars and just being foolish. I'll be amazed if you break 150rwhp.Comment

Get your head out of your ass. Take a look at how GRM and anyone with sense does Mod projects to see if they work. Your whole premise has been BS from day one. Any significant mods are over your $50 price tag - the rest is worthless crap.
Its funny how some people like to bash the other forum becuase people there are too critical.

Here's my idea of how to do a *real* budget beater, buying parts in $300 segments:
$3000 - 147k mile '89 325i (about 40k more now) : difference in compression in all 6 cylinders <10 psi, doesn't overheat, etc.
-brakes: OEM rotors, HP+ front pads, stock rear pads, OEM lines, ATE superblue
-bushings and mounts: IE urethane diff mount, RTABs, RSFMs, OEM engine and tranny mounts
-tires: Azenis or Ventus'
-drivetrain: clutch kit, flex disc, center bearing, parts to rebuild shift linkage
-limited slip diff
-fuh raze performance: Mark D chip, 19 lb injectors
Of course this is assuming you've already done some basic maintenance like fluids and filters, plugs, gave your plug wires a golden shower, zip tied your fenders on, etc.
My fast says: traction control is for the faint of heart :evil:Comment

Screw all of you for continuing to post after deciding it was going to be a failure...I read all 34 pages of this crap...argh. It was like the watching a 5 MPH car crash in super-slow motion. Huge buildup, no climax.
For conclusion, one of two things are needed:
1. Dyno of boxload of eBay parts + whatever else. (if it makes a gain over a healthy stock engine, maybe something worked, who cares, if not, everyone's right).
2. Beater confesses to be an e-baller, and drives off in his crappy Lotus...Comment

Hey guys,
took the car to the drag strip today. I finally got the car weighed and it came in at 2440lbs on a FULL tank of gas. so on a 1/4 tank it shoudl be in the 2300's i think. One problem though is now the back end of the car is so light that the wheel hop and traction have become a real issue. Getting a perfect launch on the car is pretty damn difficult. Overall though it was a pretty fun day.
I think i may do the sunroof delete b/c that takes off a substantial amount of weight at the very top of the car so it should improve handling a bit. Any other ideas for removing weight off the front of the car ?
P.S. no not scared to post here... I just have this thing called a "Social Life" I don't spend 24 hours a day on this forum like most of the guys here. Some of you guys should try to do the same lol.Last edited by Budget Beater; 05-26-2006, 11:39 PM.Comment
