I guess tomorrow I'll try disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes and see if that does anything (might as well), if not, I'll take out the cluster and see what's up.

Okay more stuff. Now the car overheats if you go too slow. The clutch fan seems to be okay, but the fan in front of the radiator didn't seem to be spinning. Is it supposed to always spin?
If you go pretty fast (since the speedo doesn't work, i'm just guessing) around 80 or above, its perfectly fine, below half. It'll shoot up to red in a minute of going slow. It seems to have gotten worse and may or may not be connected to the other issues.
Any help anyone? The first car I ever rode in was an e30

How old is your radiator? The heat exchange between your radiator and the air is not sufficient...possible clogged radiator if your fan clutch is working ok. Your water pump might be going too.Comment

So I did the oil reset light procedure described here, as well as numerous other places, by sticking a paperclip in ports 7&19 and turning the key to position two. The oil light immediately went off, but I waited for over half a minute and the inspection light didn't turn off, so I just took out the key, put the port thing back on, and left it.
Fast forward two hours. I'm driving the car and notice that the speedo is at zero. Subsequently, the odometer doesn't turn, and the MPG meter under the tach is at 0 when pressing the gas, and goes to 40 when you let off. What the hell happened? I'm as sure as I can be that I used the right ports, and I've never heard of anyone having this issue before. Any help?Comment

it depends on which version of the SI board you have, some are nicad, others are lithium.Comment

The later boards (post 1990 I believe) use lithium batteries. They are much shorter than the regular AA that you see in stores. All replacement boards use lithium batteries. These boards disable the charging circuit so no worry about batteries blowing up on you.Comment
