    New wheel bearing question

Just bought a new FAG rear wheel bearing. The inner race is split and both sides seem to move laterally quite a bit. Is this normal? Did I get a bad bearing?

    Thanks,
    Ted

I never noticed new ones doing that. But they do sometimes wiggle around just a little
as you're assembling them, so that might not be unusual...

This is normal. It'll cinch down once you install it.

Thanks guys. Just didn't seem right to me. I got impatient and took it to a local import shop where I've had work done in the past. They said it was fine. Got back on here and read the same. The pisser is I had pressed it in before I noticed the lateral movement. So then I get bent out of shape and pull it back out. All for nothing. Live and learn.

The doubt will be even worse when you do the front wheel bearings on your ix. I got everything assembled, ready to install, and the hub still had a little play before I torqued the hub nut to astightasicouldgetitwitha6footbreaker.

My new rear bearings were the same as well. It threw me off a bit, but I threw them in anyway. All seems to be going well. There is some noise out back though. No trunk tar, spare wheel or trunk lining will do that I guess. Dunlop Direzzas probably don't help either.

Its in tight and smooth like butta. Gotta say I had some serious doubts. Like kershaw said, it still had a bit of wiggle until I cranked down the hub nut.

Nothing like 200lbs of torque to make a bearing purrrr :)
